Glad to know you were looking forward to my new poem. Here it is, speaking of which. ;) (Even tho i had fun and all at the One Ring Convention, I still missed the fact that Elijah had been there last year, and was going to this year until he had to cancel. So on the way home--at sunset, btw, which makes sense for the song as you'll see--I wrote this kind of about missing his being there, tho not just about the actor, as you'll also see.) So here it is.

Sunset,
With you why does Sorrow wound so much deeper?--
Goldenflame
Shines like the heart that I love:
Can't forget
The light that illumined me once and ever--
As the stars grow cold above,
My thought wings like a dove

To the one past the Ocean, where I hear Sea-foam singing--
In life and in story I miss you, my dear:
Somewhere past the Sunset, hear the Horn of Ulmo calling,
As I dream of one so far away, yet to my heart so near...

Starlight,
Fall on me--pierce stormwrack, snow-white fire--
Silverflame
Is fair as the heart that I love:
Sing tonight
A requiem hope breathes for heart's desire--
And all I'm dreaming of
Is to soar hence like a dove

To the one past the Ocean, where I hear Sea-foam singing--
In life and in story I miss you, my dear:
Somewhere past the Sunset, hear the Horn of Ulmo calling,
As I dream of one so far away, yet to my heart so near...

In a dream once you told me, "There's always tomorrow,"
And starlight will blossom to silvery Dawn--
But you are the Sunrise, and hope is my shadow:
In Arda or Earth or Eressea Isle,
I'll see you at Morning, when joy is your smile...

I will go to the Ocean, where I hear Sea-foam singing--
In life and in story, I love you, my dear:
Some evening at Sunset, I will answer Ulmo's calling,
As did the one so far away, yet to my heart so near...

Even across the Sundering Sea, your shadow's with me here.

It's a masterpiece as usual. I really like how you were able to word the poem so it could mean more than one thing. You could've been talking about more than one thing in that poem.

Thanks--that was what i was trying for. You see, if i remember correctly, the film that Lij had to cancel being at ORC to work on is called The Oxford Murders, so i guess that means hes in England. So there was more than one "sundering sea" involved... ;)

Stunning work, Eariel! This poem is one of my favourites out of all that I've read of your work so far. Like Itarilde, I liked the "duality" (hope this work makes sense here :duh:) of it - missing both the real life actor and the fictional character, so it has a deep meaning. (Tho now that I think of it, I guess we should talk about how much "fiction" and reality does actually lie in the character of Frodo. I mean, to me, he's real in a certain way. Of course I know that he has never lived in this world, but he embodies something like a spiritually idealized person. It's hard to explain, I can't quite express what I want to say, it's like - he's like people should be or should have been. *cough* I hope this made any sense to you...)

Anyway, I loved your poem.

*applauds* Eariel, you never cease to amaze me. just when i think your poetry can't get any better, it does. Beautiful. Like everyone else, I like the double meaning of it. Elijah and Frodo. And the frequwnt mention of starlight was a nice touch. :P

And don't worry Forever. I know exactly what you mean. I think we all do, because we love Frodo so much. We've gone over this before I think. How we're all crazy because we think that Frodo is real. But he is. And I like the way you described that.

I'm terribly sorry for neglecting the clubs by the way. I'm sorry.

^That's okay. I missed you guys, tho! :) Glad you're back.
Thanks--I'm very glad you liked that poem... I know what you mean, Forever, both about the word 'duality' (being someone who is in favor of adding to English vocabulary :P ) and about Frodo being real in a way. In fact, i think he is quite real, despite the fact that he never lived in this world. As i may have mentioned before, Tolkien once wrote a story called Leaf by Niggle, about a man (Niggle) who started painting what eventually turned out to be a whole tree (he started out to paint just a leaf, as i recall), but he wasn't able to finish his work on earth. In heaven, however, he found that tree he'd so often tried to capture on paper, and if i remember correctly the last words are '"It's a gift!" he cried' or something like that. (I haven't read it, but i've read about it. ;) ) As far as i know, Tolkien thought of his mythology as his Tree, and i believe it was also real--just not in what we call 'real life.' So i think that also applies to those who are part of that mythology, which is an encouraging thought, to quote Gandalf, lol. So that may seem a bit weird, but when was a member of the E/F club ever normal? :P

I think I understand what you are trying to say Eariel. And I agree. I always thought Tolkien's work always had some type of symbology in it that you could relate to your 'real life'. Every word he wrote was meant to promote some type of poetic philosophy, at least, that's what I felt. His characters represent aspects that every reader can take away with them in their daily lives. So perhaps the characters we love aren't actually 'real', but they exist as much as we want them too.

Just in case you're interested, I've just uploaded my very first fanvid. It's not about Frodo, but about Arwen, Aragorn, Faramir and Eowyn...enjoy!

It's really neat.. Well done! I think you did a good job of timing the pictures to the words. :)
*gets back to topic ;) * Well...here's one thing i could mention. Has anyone heard of that black-and-white LotR 'portraits' calendar? I got one a few days ago, you see. I was happy to get it, but really disapointed when the month they'd put Frodo's picture on (a very lovely pic of him, i've always thought :) ) is (or was) January! So I can't stare at him for a whole month. It's too late! But i'm still glad to have the calendar, and as i've done with my other one, i suppose when 2007 is over i could just flip it back to the month he's on. And be constantly hypnotized when i walk by... :P

Lovely video Forever. Very sweet. The thing about Tolkien is he could write such gory and epic battle scenes, but then wriet these beautiful love stories in the background. And of course PJ did a great job of making those into films. But yes, very well done especially for your first. I like how it ends with Arwen smiling. It fits the music perfectly.

Eariel, that's the calendar I have. :P It's lovely. I enjoyued staring at Frodo for a month. I think I left it on January well into February actually because I couldn't bear to change it, but I did eventually. It's Arwen now, and she's pretty and all, but I'd rather look at Frodo.

There is quite a contrast to the back stories Tolkien writes. He can make the danger and pain of the battle fields as real as the passion and gentleness of the love the characters share. Interesting you brought that up Star. That was a cute video.

I used to have two calenders with Frodo on them. (I live in two different houses so it's better to have one at each house.) And even though a month would go by too quickly, I'd always flip back to the page Frodo was on as well. I don't think that's too weird. :D

:bye2: Hey guys, what's up with you? I can't believe that there's nothing more we can talk about concerning Frodo. I mean, you can talk a lifetime about him and still you haven't said everything...

A link to a pretty cool fanfic I found: http://www.guestroom.the-green-door.net ... /Mercy.htm
(I'm not all that happy with the alternative ending the author chose, but the way she described Frodo caught me. I saw some parallels to Eariel's way of writing about him, too. :) )

Thanks for sharing the story frodo. I agree with you about the alternate ending the author wrote, but I didn think it was overall written well.

That's a story i've read before now, too. I think the author writes well, but the alternate universe bit made me absolutely heartbroken last time (all stories that have that particular difference from the real lotr tend to do that, as you can imagine), tho this time i only skimmed it, to make sure it was the same one i'd read, and didn't get as deeply affected (which i'm kind of grateful for, if you know what i mean). I like some of the poems she's written much better, two of my favorite's being Love Him For Me (Prim's Song) and More than Enough.
" Sweet broken angel, you carried him
To fiery fate above,
Your bloody footprints a testament
To Courage and to Love." Some of my favorite lines from More Than Enough. :)
I'll post the link to her poems...
http://www.guestroom.the-green-door.net ... ieList.htm

Btw, i'll take your seeing parallels between our ways of writing as a compliment, Forever. :)

Also, someone should post in the Frodo club again! ;)

It was meant to be a compliment, Eariel! :) No misunderstandings here :P

Yes, I know her poems and I like them a lot. Though my favourite piece of Connie's writing would be her essay "The heroism of Frodo Baggins". I actually cried when I read it the first time.

And I know what you mean about being heartbroken! I couldn't bear it if LotR really ended like that. :'( But I loved the way she described the friendship between the hobbits.

I'm off to post in the other club.
