Smilies are good for our health! So how about we don't worry about overusing them. :rain: < I've never used that one either. He's cute! I like his little green umbrella!
I always thought that if you loved something, it was more part of you then you were a part of it. You see, a lot of the times I care about people who have no idea I exist. So, they are part of me, but if they don't even know I'm alive, how could I be a part of them? That's just my take on it though. So you don't have to agree with it or anything.
Hmm..... I've thought of something. Everyone is always talking about Frodo's friendship with Sam. Yes, that's definitely the main friendship and it's the best one ever, but people don't stop to consider all of the other people that Frodo cares about. I'm thinking about Bilbo and how much Frodo loved Bilbo. He was kind of heart broken when Bilbo went away at the beginning. Then he was so happy to find Bilbo again in Rivendell. Bilbo was almost like Frodo's father in a way. They had to be very close. I always love that part at the end of ROTK where they are going to the Grey Havens, and Bilbo is so old and tired. I think about how Bilbo falls asaleep on Frodo's shoulder, and Frodo lays down his head on Bilbo's and falls asleep too. I thought that was so beautiful. And, ok, I admit it. I really want to be Bilbo right then and there.

That was an interesting way to look at how you care about someone TT. I agree with you.
And the bond that Frodo and Sam had was unbreakable, thanks to love and loyalty. But you are right about the other characters that Frodo loved. Bilbo was most definately Frodo's father figure. I believe there bond was not only out of love, but Frodo had an enormous amount of respect for Bilbo and very thankful for him. But what about Gandalf. Gandalf was Frodo's guide and protector. They both had a deep respect and love for each other that sometimes I feel people miss. Yes, Sam was a very huge part of Frodo's life, but you're right TT, it's important to see all the others that cared as much for Frodo and who Frodo cared an awful lot about.

^ Thank you Itarilde. I'm glad someone does. :P
You're right. Frodo's bond with Gandalf is a special one and it is one that people overlook a lot. I love the scenes with Frodo and Gandalf at the beginning of FOTR. They show a lot of Frodo's tender goodheartedness, and also carefree-ness. I think it's important to look at people's relationships with other people because that's such a big part of who they are, how they act with certain people. That's why I'm so interested in Frodo's relationships with certain characters, because I think they say a lot about who Frodo is.
I would type more, but it's very late. I really should be tiptoeing off to dreamland. I'll be back again tomorrow though. TTFN as Tigger would say! :P

The people you are friends with I think define you mainly as a person. And the people Frodo chose for his friends defined him and helped him become the hero that he is. The moments in FOTR are some of the cherished moments that show Frodo for the beautiful soul that he was.

I don't know if your friends define who you are, but they are definitely a big part of you. How you treat them I would say is more self defining. For instance, at the moment, I am kind of stuck in a friendship with this girl who I would really rather not be friends with, but there is really no way to get out of it. I wouldn't want people to judge me on being friends with her, because even though I can't really get rid of her, I still would rather not be her 'friend'. I mean, I would be nice to her no matter what, because that's the kind of person I am, but I don't want to hang around with her all of the time, because she sort of................. doesn't make good decsions, to put it lightly.
How you treat people though definitely defines who you are. Frodo definitely has a massive capacity to love. Almost all of his acts can be traced back to love, be it for Sam or Bilbo or the Shire, anyone. I think that's part of where his power and his inner light come from is his ability to just love. It's a beautiful thing.
And you're right. It shows Frodo for the beautiful soul he is. (I don't say was. Frodo lives!) :)

Frodo lives! Yay! :P (Smilies shall rule the world... :bones: lol) All of you have good thoughts. (Did i say all? I meant both, i suppose...)
You're right--he is a beautiful soul. And i like what you said about his acts being traced back to love, of which he gives a lot. Love is also very important to me, as well. I want it to be a big part of who i am--there's no trait in the world that's more important, i think. :)
I love Frodo's friendship with Sam the most, but also that with Bilbo and Gandalf. I like the part in rotk where he wakes up and there's his friend who he though was dead! I'm also writing a lot about Bilbo in my fanfics of Frodo's time in the Shire before the Quest, and it's nice getting to do that. I'm coming to like that old hobbit more and more.
Actually, when i first started reading FotR, i was like, "Who's this Frodo person? Bilbo's the one i know." Well, needless to say, he grew on me--sometime while reading about Ithilien I actually "fell in love" with him, i think. :P That sort of eclipsed Bilbo for a while, but i'm starting to remember my liking for him as well. *is tired of typing* :P

I do like Bilbo a lot. He's a cute little old hobbit. And I think that the way Frodo loves him and looks up to him so much is very sweet. You do tend to lean towards Bilbo a little more at the beginning of FOTR, because you know him from reading the Hobbit (at least I did). So you're kind of like a scared little kid on their first day at a new school. "I know Bilbo so I'm going t cling to him tightly and observe all these other characters to see if they're going to hurt me." But Frodo certainly soon made me forget about Bilbo. He was without question my favorite. Bilbo who? :P Except of course that Frodo loved Bilbo, so I didn't entirely forget him. And now I believe I love Bilbo quite as much as I have ever done. It's only that he's moved over to a different place in my heart now.
I do love the look on Frodo's face when he wakes up and sees Gandalf there. Elijah did an absolutely perfect job with that (as he did with pretty much everything.) It was a look of pure, unexpected joy.
I particularly like the looks exchanged by Frodo and Sam though. How did they do it? They said countless, infinite words with just one look. There was so much there. It was beautiful.
It is kind of funny to say "all of you" or "everybody" or anything like that since we have so few people. Perhaps when Forever comes back it will be better. Only 8 more days! It does seem like a long time. *sigh* We'll get through somehow I suppose. :)

Bilbo is actually my mom's fav. of all the hobbits. And you're right TT, you do feel comfortable with Bilbo first. But you can quickly move to all the other characters easily. Frodo is special. You were talking about the looks exchanged by Sam and Frodo. You are right, words are uneeded with looks like that. I think the actors were able to acomplish that because they themselves became pretty close. The kind of deep respect and love Frodo and Sam had for each other, could only be potrayed to its full potential if the actors shared a relationship close to that. The casting was perfect and that's why the movies were such a success. Elijah Wood couldn't have been a better choice.

Yes. Elijah and Sean did get really close during the filming. How could they not? How could they go through all of that together and not form an incredible bond? Elijah was definitely the perfect choice for Frodo. No question. But I also think that Sean Astin was an excellent choise for Sam. I love Sam. <3 I love Sean too, come to think of it. But that's for another club or another thread.
I think you're right. I think they could speak to each other through ooks like that because they were so close in real life, and also because they are amazing actors.

I can't imagine anyone else as Frodo either. Elijah was Frodo, as no one else could be.
Unfortunately, I have not seen the EE version. :'( But I really don't know how that has any relevance anyway..........

..the EE version has a short clip of Elijah´s homemade tape
...the one that he sent to P. Jackson
...it´s very endearing
...he romps around with a blanket of some sort over his shoulders
...being very hobbitish
- in that clip you can see that he was meant to be Frodo

I don't have the EE version, so I can't watch the clip. :'( But I did know that he wasn't considered for the part until he auditioned.

Oh wow! I must get the EE versions immmediately! thank you for the information! *dashes to store*
Yeah, he wasn't even in the running for Frodo unitl he sent in his tape. I mean, if you think about it, you wouldn't really expect him to be good as Frodo, but he absolutely was amazing. Perfect.
*goes off to check about buying the EEs*

I've heard that some people thought he'd be too 'pretty,' or something, and couldn't show Frodo's inner strength. But he could, and well, him being attractive shows the Ringbearer's inner beauty as well. :P I can't remember if that's exactly what i heard, but anyway...
Btw, I made a banner i'd like to show ya'll. :) The words aren't from any song...i just made them up for the banner. I like 'em, though. Personally. ;)
