I really don't know! They're all so talented, and they each have individual quirks that make them great, like Viggo was so dedicated and agreed to do it at such short notice, and that's just one of them.... Sorry I am no help

To be honest, trying to pick the best actor from a cast were there were no duds at all is really hard - everyone was excellent in their parts.
Now my obvious answer would be David Wenham, because I thought he was fab as Faramir, but actually I have to agree with boawandarrow on this one. Viggo Mortenson turned in an amazing performance as Aragorn, despite coming into the project after it started with only a few days notice.
After that I think it would be Elijah Wood. He was still a teenager at the start of filming, but his performance had such depth and maturity to it, it was so easy to forget that.
Erm - perhaps it would be easier to ask which actor was no good - then the answer would be easy - none of them!

Well, If I could anwser my own question I would say that none of them did what was planed.
I am sure that J.R.R. Tolkien never intended on his books becomeing the inpossible. No offence to all who dreamed and made Middle-Earth, but whenever a movie is made that is baste on a book, it always messes things up. Now, instead of reading- witch is a good thing for your brain- kids, and adults will watch the movies- witch is brain-roting for the head.
Otherwise the movies were awsome!!!!!!!!!!

Oooooo hard question.
I agree with all that was said above about how each actor/actress fitted their role perfectly.
But if I had to choose one I think it would be Sean Bean, just cause he does such a brillient job in any role he plays.

I think I like really all actors, but still, I have a favourite: Viggo Mortensen, I think he is not just really, really talented he is also very creative and.. he looks so cool!!
And on my second place, it is definetly Andy Serkins. I think it is just great what he can do with his voice and how he can transform himself in such a creature, with knowing that he will not really be in the movie as a main actor!!

It's hard to choose as they all played their parts so well but the performances that really stood out for me were those of Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean, John Rhys-Davies, David Wenham, Liv Tyler, Karl Urban, Andy Serkis and Brad Dourif!

I loved both Viggo Mortensen and Ian McKellan. They are both such amazing actors and pull off just about any roll they are in. All of the LotR actors were great, but whenever Viggo or Ian came on the screen I was just floored by their sheer presence. It was amazing.
Now if I had to decide between those two.... It would be very hard to say...

Well, I'm going to have to say Orlando Bloom. It's not because he is hot either (even though he is). I just truely think that he is the best actor out of the LotR group. I've seen him play more than one character before and I really think that he is a talented actor. Another thing for me is that as I've said before, he can cry and that's a major thing for me. However it is a little unfair though because I haven't seen All the of the LotR actors and actresses in other things before. However judging by what I have seen of each LotR actors and actresses so far I'm standing behind my previous choice of Orlando Bloom.

They're all really great, but I'd have to say it's a tie with: Andy Serkis, Sean Astin and John Noble. Poor Andy Serkis had to go around in this horrible suit through it all. John Noble played a totally creepy dude. And Sean Astin's just cool

i luv them all,no question there.but when it comes to the best actor,i'd say Viggo b/c he was just so into his character and he played Aragorn so excellently.also Andy Serkis.it was hard work playing Gollum.
