A good actor, I think, is someone who can make you believe that they're NOT acting. They also need to have an expressive face, chemistry with their co-stars, range, being able to fully get into their character, etc. Acting is actually a lot harder than most people realise. |

I think what makes a good acotr, is changing pieces of their personality to fit the character for the time of the shoot. And be able to change in and out of character. I am in drama myself... it a very dificult thing to do. |

I think acting has to do with becoming that particular person for the length of a play or a shoot. I don't think it is possible to completely just shrug off a sharacter at the end of the day - particularly if one has immersed themselves in a role for a prolonged period of time. Even if you are "off-duty" I imagine that one would be thinking about how your character would react to a situation or a conversation. But having said that, I go to a lot of theatre performances and it is interesting to see the actors come out for their applause. Ages ago I saw Barry Otto, Miranda Otto's father in "Kiss of the Spider Woman". He played the role of the gay prisoner (William Hurt's role in the movie) He was mesmerising. His voice was incredible, breathy and drawn out - when the character told the story of the spider woman in a totally darkened theatre it was engrossing. As an audience member I couldn't wait to hear what came next! The cringing, obsequious way he walked made him look so small and frightened. He was so pitiful, so whining, so ingratiating, so weak. He was totally believable as that character! When the lights came up for the end of the play, he took his first bow as that character and as he stood up, you could physically see him shrugging off that character and he became himself - a very broad-shouldered man, muscular and confident. I wouldn't have known it was the same person, if I hadn't seen the transformation before my very eyes. He never had the same presence on screen, but on stage, in any production that he appeared in, he was rivetting. I think that good actors immerse themselves in their roles, don't mind if their hair gets mussed, and are willing to challenge themselves in a variety of roles. |

Well, this kind of goes without saying, but the ability to act well without stage fright, ormaybe stage fright, but not noticable. |

What makes a good actor: Someone who can embrace their character. Really actually becomes them. |

A good actor is someone who not only looks the part but as Gwen says becomes the character they portray. They also play their part realisticly, no execess froo-froo or pointless stuff but just being real!! I can think of several actors who fail to meet these standards we're listing but if I say who, I'll probably be killed. *eye roll* |

i agree with Lady Enelya..i must believe that this character is real.and i think a good actor is felt his character's feelings.. |

certainly I agrre with miss cartman.An actor must be in his role's feelings,appearence and also thoughts.Just for the time he acts,he must be another person. |

In my opinion, the followin things make a good actor/actress: 1. Talent 2. Ability to make an audience feel a certain emotion (i.e.: when the actor/actress is sad, the audience cries (Liv Tyler)) 3. Ability to take a difficult role, and make it look easy to do 4. FAN TREATMENT 5. Personality behind camera 6. Able to get in the proper quirks 7. Make facial expressoins easy to read, especially eyes 8. Choice of roles (varierty is important) 9. Ability to get a fan base if they're the villian 10. Makes you want to see their movie over and over and over and over and over and you get the picture... Any agreements? |

Well first of all, there has to be more to them then just looks....second, they need to have the ability to play different roles with ease...flexibility. |

They need to really understand their character and be able to get us to believe they are that person rather than themselves. If they can acheive that I qualify them as a good actor... |

I think quite simply beleivability and transportation. 1) Being able to make the audience believe that you are that charactor. 2) Being able to transport you to hat place. However bad the scenery. |
