Yay! FINALLY a sequel to Elizabeth!

I read in a local magazine the other day that Shekhar Kapur has been signed to direct the sequel to be called Elizabeth: The Golden Age.

Cate Blanchett has also been signed to play Elizabeth again and the film will reportedly focus on her alledged infatuation with Sir Walter Raleigh.

Filming is due to start in six months time.

I just thought I'd mention Yahoo Movies is giving Boxing Day (December 26) this year, as the release date for the film. Cate Blanchett Online says that the film will start shooting in April.

Sadly, rumour has it Cate Blanchett will NOT be starring as Elizabeth in this second film and the role instead may go to the likes of Tilda Swinton or Bryce Dallas Howard... IMBd.com does not list Cate as a cast member, although Cate Blanchett Online does and says her appearance has already been announced.

But from Cate Blanchett Online on September 2, last year...

Cate Blanchett is leaving fans guessing about her regal return as British queen Elizabeth I after insisting industry reports about a sequel to the hit 1998 movie Elizabeth are untrue. The actress has reportedly signed up to play the flame-haired queen in Elizabeth: The Golden Age, but comments she made yesterday in Australia's Herald Sun might give producers pause for thought. She says, "I'm really good friends with Shekhar Kapur (director) and he's forever saying he's going to do this movie or that movie and I think there was talk about it. There's so much there if it were to happen, but my initial instinct is, why (make it)?" Hollywood's top trade magazines report the sequel would co-star Geoffrey Rush and Clive Owen and start shooting in April.
