I guess I'm the first to post. Gulp. Anyway, here's my entry:

Here, where in ancient glade
dwells an Elven-queen most fair;
Here, where in cavernous gloom
dwells a Spider in her lair;
Here, where in uneasy tomb
sleep kings of past deeds and dare;
Here, where is a broken blade
dwells a maid of night-black hair;
Here, where the One Ring was made
dwells an Eye which none can bear;
Here, where pleasant gardens bloom
dwell a simple hobbit pair;
Here, just as if we are bade
we come to see the last doom,
as fine and still as a prayer.

To get the right effect, ancient should be pronounced with three syllables: anc-i-ent.

I'll be out of town until the 17th, so I won't get to see anyone else's entry until then, but I'm sure they'll be great!

All right, here mine is. :)

The Fellowship of the Ring: A Poem
(In Limerick)

In the Shire lived Bilbo a hobbit
He had a ring; Gandalf said “Drop it.”
“I’ll give that to Frodo
And now off you go
To the Elves, and don’t try to stop it.”

So Gandalf gave Frodo the Ring
But they found it was an evil thing
In Mt. Doom it was formed
By Sauron of Mordor
Now his henchmen the Ringwraiths were coming

Frodo did what he had to do
Sam, Merry and Pippin came too.
The all ran to Bree
Where they couldn’t be seen
But their safety would end very soon

On Frodo’s finger the ring fell
The hobbits knew all wasn’t well
A cry pierced the night
They all froze in fright
Something was wrong, they could all tell

Strider turned and said to them:
“Frodo, you’ve endangered your friends!
You’ve attracted your foes
I’m a Ranger; I’d know
Our stay at this place must now end.”

The five set off and Strider did tell
How, soon they’d give the ring to Elves
Frodo asked: “Where’ll we go?
Our location is known”
To that Strider said: “Rivendell.”

They stopped on a hill and got tired
So the hobbits cooked dinner, with fire
But that showed where they were
And the hobbits were sure
They’d rather be home in the Shire

Soon Ringwraiths surrounded them all
For Strider, the poor hobbits called
He came and they fought
But Frodo was not
All right; and his wound was not small

They ran, but their efforts seemed vain
For Frodo was in so much pain
The Arwen arrived
Brought him there alive
And Frodo was healed once again

So Elrond called a Council together
And there was an argument whether
To destroy or use
The ring or to choose
To hide it away, see it never.

They had to destroy the ring
That much was easily seen
But how to be done
This task not so fun
Led everyone to arguing

Frodo said he’d do the task
And then the question was asked
How he’d do it himself
Without friends to help
Him destroy this great evil at last

So Frodo, Merry, Pippin & Sam
Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli and then
Strider (really Aragorn)
And Boromir in scorn
Stood up and presented a plan

A Fellowship was then to be formed
To take the ring down to Mordor
They’d help Frodo and said
No matter how full of dread
They’d destroy the ring and the Dark Lord.

Hello all, this ish moi. I have my poem here for submission, and will post it myself (even tho I PM'ed it to Gwen by accident lol !:) )
so this is it, A poem about Arargorn and Arwen, and their love for each other, and most points between. Basically the tale of Aragorn and Arwen in a poem. (excuse some typos if u dont mind)

Enjoy
EDIT- PS this poem is like an Epic and thus very long , but dont let that discourage you! :-D

Learned, wise, yet fell and strong,
A chieften of men he was born to be,
Yet for all this, and his lifespan long,
From rule he would ever flee.

She the evenstar of the elder race,
As fair as nigh any from elder days,
Tall and beautiful, full of grace,
Of this elven maid poets write many lays.

He grew up tall, he grew up swift,
He lived in halls to rival lords most great,
His doom, for years to ever drift,
In warm, safe havens ne’er long to wait.

He saw her in lands of her kin,
In the woods of Rivendell his adopted home,
And he saw her! Dear Luthien!
Who in these beloved woods did roam.

“Why call me by that name?” she said with a smile,
“I think you to be her Indeed, daughter of Thingol”
Said he, “I am her kin, I am Arwen Undomiel”
Said she, and Arathorns son had his heart stole.

He spoke with his mother, and she deemed him troubled,
“My son, what hath befallen thee?” she said.
Then he told her, of his love that within him bubbled,
That after she spoke with him,his intent by Elrond was easily read.

“Your doom it is, to wander to heights last seen,
By your kin when Elendil walked this earth,
Or to fall to the depths your race has long been,
And to stride with them to shadow and death.”

“Yet no mans daughter shalt thou bind,
To you in love and wedded bliss,
Till we shall in the right time find,
You worthy of mortal woman or maid of Elfinesse.”

Thus spoke Elrond, and Aragorn was full of woe,
“Can it be my mother has informed you of this,
My love for your daughter which doth grow,
With each passing moment, that image of bliss?”

“Your eyes are traitors to your feelings,
I read them as if it were written in a book,
Yet Arwens heart, is too great for the stealing,
By even the heir of Numenor, to take a look.”

“The doom of choice for her is far away,
In years of Men to hope to name,
That while I live under middle earths Day,
Then her immortality shall stay the same.”

But Aragorn had looked and seen,
What his kinsman Beren had, and the same he did,
They both beheld where fair elven light had been,
And ever would be , and never was hid.

“Yet My lord Elrond, so must it be,
that Arwen must decide whether or not,
She stays in middle earth, for it paying immortality,
Or to leave for Aman, with the undying to throw in her lot.”

“We shall say no more” said he
And Aragorn began to prepare to be gone,
He took leave of his mother lovingly,
And went off to fight against the servants of Sauron.

Then for three decades of battle and wandering,
Aragorn fought the thralls of the Servant of morgoth,
Over valleys green and on seas sundering,
Fighting Mannish servants of that evil king and the corrupted glamhoth.

Thus became this man, greater than ordinary men,
A peer to the elven lords, learned of elvish lore,
A master of woodcraft, studied long in grassy fen,
By night he strode, through caverns shade and dark, secret doors.

Allies he made, among them Gandalf the Wise,
Greatest of the wizards then , save Saruman the White,
Uncovering plots in burning wastes or stormy skies,
Or besides his brethren Dunedain great evils to fight.

A man most stern, and grim faced he looked,
Yet to men, when a smile came o’er his rocky face,
His manner was kingly, no darkenss he brooked,
To men seemed a lord in exile, of a long lost race.

By land and sea, He fought and rode
With the lords of the plains,Rohirrim, born cavalry,
And on the deck of a great ship his restless feet strode,
There he stood under the banner of the White tree.

Then went to the land of the singing gold,
Laurenlindorenan, or the Dreamflower fair,
There, his manner was no longer cold,
His burden taken from him, Made free from care.

And on the hill where Amroth stood many ages before,
Stood his love, the fair Arwen Evenstar,
He crowned as a Elf Lord of years of yore,
And together they in love wandered far.

Their love they pledged to each other,
Where the grass undying lay,
To ne’er tread the ships with her dear father,
To forsake the life beyond a rolling ocean grey.

The choice of his daughter Elrond learned,
Which brought nought save grief and sorrow,
His heart flamed not hot, but cold did burn,
Yet in loss would see time to Men borrowed.

“My daughter shall not sacrfice her lifes grace,
To take the road to deaths lonely door,
Her loveliness, her beautiful face,
Will only be wed to the king of Gondor and Arnor.”

These two spoke no more about this matter,
And outside Sauron grew strong and rebuilt Barad Dur,
Meanwhile Arwen in hope that Aragorns aim would not stutter,
And made him a standard, worthy of the Heir of Numenor.

After several winters, Gilraen returned to her Kin,
That in Eriador did live, aged by great care,
That in the north, the lands of lonely glen,
She waited for her last audience with her son there.

He came to her, and she spoke with a tired voice,
To Estel, who had become like unto an elf,
She told him, despite protests, that she made her choice,
“I gave hope to the Dunedain, I kept none for Myself”

Aragorn left his mother dear ,
With heavy heart that would stop birds sing,
Some time after, he was faced with his fear,
She died ere the next spring.

Then came on the events of the war of the Ring,
Those years of consequence, Joy and woe,
When he came to the aid of the city of Kings,
On the fields of Pellenor in his banner the wind did blow.

After the last battle was fought, Aragorn became the king,
There the line of royalty , long lost was restored,
There Elrond on a grey horse did bring,
Arwen the Evenstar, that her and Aragorn by love may be moored.

The parting of Elrond and Arwen was of all moments ever,
The bitterest of all that in tale of words is told,
The tears flowed like Anduin, that mighty river,
Him preparing to go west, That lord ancient and old.

The One was no more, and the Three were diminshed,
And all things that were sustained by them would fade in time,
Making the Tale of the Nolder, all but finished,
Yet still the beauty of the elf lands, tis greater than can be said in Rhyme.

After six score years as queen in bliss,
As queen of a kingdom, the Kings lovely wife,
Aragorn, wishing to not die old and witless,
As the kings of old, would willingly relinquish his life.

She would dissuade him, but his mind was made up,
That despite all that she might entreat,
That he was sure he would his life give up,
And saying his farewells to kin, trod down the silent street.

There ended the last numenorean, Aragorn Elessar,
His majesty, his splendour without earthly end,
In grief Arwens feet, they wandered far,
To take her to the land of her kin, in far Lorien.

There on the hill on which they first had vowed their love,
Arwen undomiel laid down her life, and her spirit did flee,
To the halls of the west, lying on Cerin Amroth, in the mallorn grove
To be forgotten by later men and women, east of the Sorrowing sea.

Thus the image of Luthien that was on the earth,
That saved the kingship of men, at such a great cost,
That when she faded, lost was all mirth,
The last vision of the Beloved of the elves was forever lost.

So, here's my entry. It's a poem that could have been written by Galadriel as soon as she felt that the time of the Elves is over and it's written in form of a Shakespearean sonnet....

The world has changed
Galadriel's lament

The world has changed forever,
The power of my people slowly fades,
The days of your glory will return never,
Across Middle-Earth will spread dark shades.

The great days of the Elves are over,
To men, dwarves and hobbits this world we must leave,
Without us Lorien will lie forever cold and sober,
But to our ancient destiny we must cleave.

When after all those years weary we feel,
The white ships lie ready for us to sail,
But while at our silver shores all wounds will heal,
I fear soon our legacy will not be more than a fairy tale.

The sea now calls her children home,
From this land where so long Eärendil's light shone.

Alright, seeing as only a few people have actually turned in their entries, I will extend the date to July 8th. That's two days from today. I will not accept entries after July 9th, as I will be setting up the poll that day.

JF: Okay, sounds good.

Rose: Thanks!

Unless I unexpectedly have a pocket of free time I don't think I'm going to be able to get my entry in :( I leave tomorrow and I won't be back until the 17th, and my entry isn't done yet :(

I'm sorry, I'm so sorry this has been so late. Loads of things that have drove me extremely busy.

Ages ago, nine great Men
Kings and warriors of old
Lived on Middle Earth
Governing with great power

But greater was their lust
Ever hungry for power
And thus their hearts
Weakened by their desire

Then Sauron the Deceiver
Came to them and gave them
The Nine Rings of Power
Feeding their burning lusts

Blindly they accepted
And for many years,
Wealth and power
Were gained by the Men

But as they lived their
Unnaturally long lives
They began to pay
The cost of their powers

Corruption entered their hearts
And gnawed on them like rats
And slowly they began to fade
As if the wind itself blew them away

The once nine great Men
Became shapeless wraiths
Once the proudest rulers
Now slaves to Sauron's will

With eyes that blaze with hate
And cries and wails of death that
Bring fear to even the brave
They are the Ringwraiths

Sorry but my inspiration died on me, halfway through my poem, so I'll have to drop out. :-(
