Can I enter the writing contest? PLease? Here it is:
It was a night of rain and clouded skies. A night when mists hung low in corners where willows huddled in hushed conversation, their heads bowing close and low. Water dripped from leaves, from gutters, slithered down window screens to come together in puddles where worms would rest. Everything was silent, and I was missing you.
I looked down, only to notice the reflection of your face staring back at me. The water was frigid; everything felt as though it were dead. I could feel a tear running down my cheek, and I wiped it away with the back of my hand. I lifted my head, and walked on.
Every puddle I splashed through spoke softly of the next time we'll meet. Every rustle of leaves that brought a shower down upon my head whispered the echo of your laugh. Your voice was running down the sidewalk, begging me to follow its winding path in the darkness. And I searched for you.
I was looking hurriedly, trying to find you fast, because the darkness was getting thicker, but somehow my shadow still followed me. Scared now, every so often I would feel like giving up and to just go home. "What home?" I asked myself.” you’re the reason I got out of bed in the morning, the reason I would EVER go home".
I know that you were somewhere near me, maybe only an arms reach away. You were there to help me rid of the darkness.
Beneath the floppy branches, heavy with water, I looked. I followed footprints left in the muddy ground hoping that they were yours. All night I hunted for you under the starless sky, the rain never stopping, always falling, falling.
I could feel it landing on my bare skin, wishing I were a jacket. But that was less important than me finding you.
My eyelids were getting heavy, and I tried to fight off the exhaustion. Then I gave in. I slept, and dreamed;
There was a sound of running water in the distance. That somehow found a way into my sleep. I walked around, and around again. Near the black water with both spiders and snakes deep under it’s surface. As I walked ,it seemed that the grass was reaching for my ankles. Then a new sound was heard. Long, low sounds, branches rustling and trees being bent. But I still heard you calling in the night. Then I awoke.
The morning found me lost under the soggy willow tree, seeking out your hand to lead me home. As I brushed past the limp leaves into the first rays of sunlight, I realized with a smile that you never really left me at all. The night had been gloomy with rain clouds and doubt, but now morning was here, and our friendship was still in the breeze.

Here's my story!
I think I'm going to die.
It's strange I'm not panicking, but I guess I got that over with when the boat started going down. I heard there was going to be a storm, but I went out anyway. No one knows I'm out here. Sorta like when I was young, nine or so. I was boating with my parents. I had on a life jacket, but when I fell overboard, I still went over my head for a second or two. That was enough. I started screaming, panicking. The water was frigid; everything felt as though it were dead. My parents got me back in the boat quickly, but I was still petrified of boats and any water being enough to drown in for years. That was before the fights. And the divorce.
After this is over, I'll probably be scared of water again. Except I'm going to die. I had forgotten. My body's cold and numb, but at least I can still feel the cold. If it was totally numb I wouldn't feel if a shark bit off an arm or leg. I'd make a nice easy meal, bobbing on the water in a life jacket.
I wonder why I decided to go out today anyway, and alone. I guess I just wanted to be alone. Or maybe I wanted to face something - show I wasn't afraid and going to run. I've been running a lot lately. Ever since the divorce I've wanted to run. They said it wasn't my fault. That's what all parents say when they fight. Maybe it wasn't. It doesn't really matter. I'm stuck with Dad, and he hardly notices me since Mom left. But I haven't asked him about it. I'm too scared. I'm just running from my problems. Maybe if I get out of this I'll stop running. If I can survive one of my oldest fears, I can face all the others. Yeah, I'll do that. If I get out, I'll stop running. If I survive.
I can't feel my legs anymore. I wonder if they're still there. I've read that your mind starts going in cold water. Or maybe that was just in one of those tabloids. Those always make stuff up. I am starting to feel kinda sleepy, though. I can't feel my hands. I see something. Something different than the water and sky. It's a boat - maybe it'll rescue me. Or maybe I'm imagining it. Could be a hallucination. I hope it's real. The water's so cold where it splashes my face. Cold like death. That's kind of poetic, I never was much good at poetry. The boat's getting closer. I sure hope it's real. Feels like I'm being lifted from the water. Dad? Is that you? Looks like him. Did he come to get me? Maybe he does care. Ah! Ouch! My legs hurt. I sure hope this is real, it seems like it. I think I'm going to survive. I'm going to stop running.
