Is it just me that finds TTT a more difficult read?

I've been reading TTT for about 2 months now and I'm still only about half way though. It happened last time too, I struggle so much on the second book because it seems to drag so much more.
Don't get me wrong, I love it but it seems to take so much longer to read. The FotR and RotK took 2 weeks, max, but TTT has taken ages both times round.

Does anyone esle feel like this or am I the only one? :(

I'm actually the opposite, I find TTT the easiest read. I find RotK really hard. I recently reread it and was surprised to discovered that the Battle of Pelennor Fields is near the beginning!

I thought that TTT was the hardest to read too, Elenwe ;) You're not alone! :P I love the book, but I think the part with Frodo and Sam getting to Mordor drags a bit (at least for me :))

I'm pleased then that it's not just me. :) It just seems to take forever. I love all the detail and the conversations and everything but it just drags a bit, like you said.

Hmm, I'm now pleased that it's not just me. :P I think it's because it's the middle bit. Having said that, TTT is a really good film.

I completely understand where you're coming from. For some reason I always find the second book in a trilogy to be the slowest going in reading. I really don't understand why either, it's probably something psychological that I wouldn't understand, even if I tried. :teehee:

 I guess it's just one of those annoying, puzzeling things in life.

The first part of TTT was a quick read for me especially since the whole Rohan story is my favorite part of the whole trilogy but I found that the second part with Sam, Frodo and Gollum took much longer to read, I think because it just wasn't as interesting to me.

(Wow granny, you're about the only person I know that still keeps an up-to-date family banner!) :swoon:

The Frodo and Sam bit, although I suppose it's a very important part, is the bit that drags for me. Once book 4 began I began to find it more and more tough going.

Hmm...that's odd...I have the same problem with TTT seeming to drag more than the other two, but, contrary to everyone else, it was Book 3 that went slowly for me...And also Book 5 in RotK. But towards the middle of the story, I guess I've gotten used to it and the reading usually goes quicker.

For me, the part with Frodo, Sam, and Gollum was the easiest to read, but the other part (especially with Merry and Pippin and Treebeard) went slowly. *Shrug*

Don't feel bad. I thought TTT was the hardest to read myself. I've only read it once (struggling) through it, and I plan to get back to it to read again. I think I missed a lot from it, because I was under stress to finish it (book report) and I found myself rushing. I really must read it again.

I don't think it was a particularly slow read, but I think it was the slowest for me out of all three.
For me, it wasn't the part with Frodo and Sam (I loved those parts) or the part with Merry, Pippin, and Treebeard (which I also loved.). It was the long battle descriptions. I try really hard to picture the battles the way that Tolkien wrote them, I just have a hard time with it. A lot of the time, I can't picture the area where they are having the fight, which makes it harder to picture the fight itself. I still did enjoy reading the battles though. I enjoyed thw whole book. As I do everything I read of Tolkien's.
