I love the poem!
Really, I think that Faramir wasn't done justice in the movie. They made him look really...weak minded, I guess is the word.

It's great to read all these posts by you guys who love Faramir! I love him too. My favourite book moment is in the chapter "The Steward and the King", when he tells Eowyn he would still love her, even if she were queen of Gondor.
My favourite film moment has to be when he rides out to Osgiliath with the few soldiers that he can spare or are willing to go. For me Faramir in the film is exactly how I imagine him in the book. <3
A translation of the song being sung in that scene of the film is,
"You must understand,
He does the duty of two sons now,
For himself, and for the one that will not return."

I love Faramir, especially from the book. he is probably my second fave character (Aragorn would be first. )

Faramir is an AMAZING character, more in the book than the movie. In the book he is this valiant and honorable prince who sees that the Ring is evil right from the start. And the fact that his father dosent love him, but he still tries to win his love is also a very nice touch of Tolkien's. Along with the Eowyn part of things.
He definitely deserves more than in the movies have given him, but David was really a good cast for the role, and he acted whatever he was supposed to beautifully. But I definitely like him better in RotT because he is that much more what he is portrayed in the books.

I partially agree. To some extent I was disappointed in the way that Faramir was almost tempted by the Ring, considering the contrast that was shown in the books between Faramir and Boromir with the temptation of the One Ring. However, I think the fact that Faramir never asked for the Ring directly or really thought [in movie sense] or taking it still makes movie!Faramir's character just as strong as book!Faramir's. He still resisted temptation, but he went about it a different way.

I love that Faramir is so multi-faceted. He's scholarly and wise, but also brave, strong, and courageous, and a warrior. He's not the consummate warrior that Boromir was, but he knew how to wield a sword just fine.
He and Aragorn are a lot alike. Both smart, wise, etc, but fine warriors also. They make quite a pair when it comes to ruling Gondor.

Faramir is very wise.
I didn't like that in movies Faramir almost took the ring to Minas Tirith. Though in book Faramir let Frodo and Sam go and helped them.
