Personally, I like the film Eowyn. As for the book version, the only thing I can remember of Eowyn is her being Dernhelm; that's it. I hardly ever remember, except for Galadriel, any female being elaborated on in the books. I think PJ did an excellent job with expanding roles; and if it had been word for word from books, I would not love them like I do. At least PJ made them interesting.

Eowyn in the movie is probably my favorite, but don't trust me on that bacause I haven't read Lord of the Rings... I'm gettin' there though... Oh, and just like Proncess of Ithilien, Eowyn and Faramir were my two favorite characters, and I was jumping up and down and squeaking (yes squeaking) when I was watching ROTK extended version and I saw the scene with both of them... They make such a great couple!!!

I read the books before seeing the movies and I don't see that much difference between book and movie, except of course that I was able to get inside book Eowyn's head very quickly. Either way I think she's an awesome character and a good example for girls.
As for the "loving" Aragorn thing...well, I'm not thrilled about it, but I understand where she's coming from and I won't chastise her too much for falling for someone unavailable (it would be somewhat hypocritical). I do kind of tend to go "tsk-tsk" when I see her really flirting with him though, just out of habit.

aww poor Eowyn. What I hated about the movie Eowyn is Helm's Deep. Sorry folks but book Eowyn would never in a million years sit back in the caves while everybody else was fighting. Ya I know putting her would mess stuff up too but that's why the women and chilren weren't supposed to be ther in the first place! boo PJ. Seriously, she's be disguised or something but she wouldn't just sit there. No way in the world. lol

I read the books first and I've always loved Eowyn... she's just so totally awesome and IMO would've been better for Aragorn anyhow... *dodges rotten tomatoes* lol

I like the Eowyn in book but I am biased as I read the books first. :-D I came to know her through books but I like the way she is portrayed in the movie too. :) I think she had a quiet strength which showed even when she was hurting. She was practical except where Aragorn was cocerned. :-D

^ "quiet strength" --That's a great way of putting it. That's a big reason why I like her also.

Well, I think both Arwen and Éowyn had quiet strength, though Éowyn's is more evident. After all, she accepted her role as Théoden's ward very.....calmly, without making a fuss of it, even though she didn't like it. So, yeah. Arwen's is less evident.

Yes. That is a plus, for her. It allows Tolkien to show some of her 'strength', but since Arwen isn't in there, he doesn't have a chance to reveal hers. Pity, that.

OMG I'm just like you! I always hated (and will always hate) the movie depiction of Eowyn, it just ticked me off how she was showing off to Aragorn all the time, but the original, book version of Eowyn was really good!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOK!!!

Eowyn was cold and silent in the book. Very rarely, if ever, did she have any outbursts. She had dignity. Only those who were very, very wise, could read any of her emotions. She didn't chase anybody, and she didn't jump in and get crushes on anybody the moment she met them and then announce that she loves them and then run off. And I hate that in the movie they make her a bad cook. I would have imagined her a good cook.

Personally, I found both movie and book Eowyn to be perfectly satisfactory. They are both strong and proud, mourning for those "whose time has come" as Theoden puts it. She is a sad character in both respects, as she yearns for someone who is already taken, but she loves him for the wrong reasons as well. I actually think that the book Eowyn is more power-hungry than the movie Eowyn. Either way, her transformation from a woman-warrior to a healer is wonderfully done both ways.

I think I liked the book Éowyn better than the movie Éowyn, though both were fantastic. I think it has something to do with the way that Éowyn in the book is a little more...mature/older, than they portrayed her in the movie. It's a very small difference, just as the margin between which one I like more is.

It's been a while since I read the book, and when I did I was kinda rushing through it - but I like the book Eowyn better.
I remember the first time reading it, when Tolkien started the description of Eowyn, I started slowing down and reading more carefully (I tend to skim over the page sometimes, so every now and then I'll end up missing something... I'm working on it, though, so I focus now when I read...)

I liked Eowyn in both film and book. I really sympathised for her. Though in the book she came across more down and sorrowful. Her pleads for Aragorn to take her with him on the paths of the dead were almost heartbreaking.
