TTT does.
Makes all the difference to me... but FotR is good as well. All 3 have different things that make them my favorite - I don't think I could have a favorite.

Sorry, I'm a bit confused, The Nightingale. Did we mention Eowyn in relation to The Fellowship of the Ring, or are you just stating the fact? Sorry, I don't mean to be annoying .

Basically just stating the fact... Eowyn is my favorite character, therefore I like TTT and RotK a bit more than FotR because of that.

Ooooooooooh, I get it, The Nightingale. I apologize if I came across as being a bit slow :duh: .

To me, the three books are a complete story but I agree with Aerandir that TTT picks up a pace which FOTR lacks but that doesn't mean that I like TTT any better. :) I like both of the books but like Aerandir said I can't put down that book once I start reading it. :-D

I think all of us feel that way, Arianna :). Some of us may like some books better than others, but we love them all the same :).

I think its about the same, though I haven't read it in awhile, though I think its a litttle more humouress then FOTR with Aragorn having a fit about his sword, some of the funny Helms Deep scenes and the famous Po-Tay-Toes speech by Sam.

I agree, Ashwise. There are some funny moments in The Two Towers :).

I have chosen the Two Towers. In my opinion the Fellowship of the Ring begins much more slowly than does the Two Towers. The Two Towers begins strong and ends strong as well and for that reason it is my choice.

You have to consider, though, Christian, that The Two Towers didn't need an introduction. The Fellowship of the Ring did. You already know from reading The Fellowship of the Ring what has happened. The Two Towers didn't need one.

I am not trying to offend you any way, shape, or form, Christian. I am simply stating my opinion, as you have.

I am not offended at all. This would not be a discussion unless we were stating all of our different opinions after all. :)

I have considered this and I have read introductions that have been much more enthralling than the one in the Fellowship of the Ring. Though that is not to say that the introduction to the book is not good because it is. However I would not have minded had it not started at as slow of a rate. ;)

Also I should state my meaning more clearly. By the beginning of the book I did not mean the introduction only but towards the middle of the book as well. I suppose I should have said that the book as a whole is at a slower rate than is the Two Towers.

I agree with you on that, Christian. The Fellowship of the Ring went at a much slower rate than The Two Towers. However, you have to consider that Tolkien would've had to go into great detail about a lot of things, such as character description and personality.

That is true.

I suppose that the Fellowship of the Ring is an introdcution in and of itself in the sense that the characters as well as the mission to take the Ring to Mount Doom is introduced in the book, which both take most of the book to cover. (Though the quest to destroy the Ring in Mount Doom is mentioned at the beginning, it actually becomes the mission at the Council of Elrond.)

That's exactly what I mean, Christian. I couldn't have said it better myself.
