How complex would their language be? Do you think that they made up sentences, or just spoke in monosyllables and grunts?

Perhaps not as complicated as that of the higher beings, but far more vocal than that of normal Wolves. Probably the level of communication of Dolphins or even more.

I'd always considered the Wargs to talk normally...not necessarily basic animal talk.

The books says the "dreadful language of the wargs" which doesn't sound like normal human language... But I'm sad that JRRT made wolves evil. GO WOLVES!!!

Aren't there normal wolves in M-e? Tell me there aren't just evil wolves/wargs.

It is implied that there are, considering Gandalf's statement in FotR (don't remember the exact quote and place, but it's something like this). "It is as I feared--these were not normal wolves." He says something like that.

I used that quote just earlier:
"It is as I feared,' said Gandalf. `These were no ordinary wolves hunting for food in the wilderness. Let us eat quickly and go!"

So not all wolves are evil. Just wargs.

Every race of middle earth has it's own language, I think. As you may say that birds and dogs of the real world have their own "language"...

What? That seems like a completely random comment. Care to explain it, please? What does a farmer going for his gun have to do with Wargs and Goblins talking to each other?

tolkien came from a farming community background (though his father was a banker)where wolves are rememeberd with hatred and loathing as a very dangerous pest from medieval times.modern people thing wolves are cute cos they live in cities.people who live and work in the country have a different perception of nature.

So your basically saying that Tolkien thought of Wolves with more distaste than modern Urban people would. That makes sense becuase besides from the Rural/Urban difference you mentioned people these days are generally more knowledgable about the natural world than in those days.

That does make sense I guess... Though I have to disagree with the reason why I like wolves, though of course I have no doubt that you're right noldor about the reason why some people like them. I like their power and grace and wildness that isn't present in most everday dog. (And dogs shouldn't be wild anyway! ) OK, done going off topic now...
