Aemornion - echoed. I agree totally.
The movie itself was a good film, but personally I feel that 9 timesout of 10 a book will always be better than a film.

Nauriel Rochnur wrote: But the movie had flaws in it (ex. Elves at Helm's deep, Eomer aiding helm's deep), and that scored against it. Had I seen the movie befor I read the book, I might think differently, but as it stands, i think the book out scores the movie by a long shot!
I will have to agree on that. Characters have been completely erased from the storyline and I do regret it as I am sure that Tolkien gave a great importance to each of his characters. I could see where Pete Jackson and his team might have been coming from but they decided to translate the most challenging and immeasurable piece of modern litterature into a screenplay which in itself comprises a lot of restrictions in terms of time and budget. Very ambitious, but there we go, they did it.
The TT film has this "rushed for deadline reasons" feel to it. The book contains so many names, characters, places and overlaping timelines that makes it practicaly impossible to translate visualy unless you want to spend a good year in a cinema to get round the whole of Middle Hearth!
Could it be that it would have been better to adapt it for the television and spread it over 10 episodes or so for each book which would have made three seasons. Now I know that Busges do not weight the same in the Tv industry as it does in Cinema and that we might have lost out on the fantastic SFx. but hey, that would have made the greatest television show ever made instead of the greatest epic film ever made. However, speaking of Sfx: this is where the TT Film downfall lies in my opinion. The Fx are so strong and beautiful that we have almost forgotten how badly Tolkien's original work has been mistreated in the TT. In a different way but similar in result "Moulin Rouge" storyline is dead boring and so "deja vu" but the overall amazing aesthetic and visual effects take all the credit. Now if you take "Romeo and Juliet in the comon" made by the same director, you get the same beautiful artistic direction but this time the story line balances it out as it is based on a major piece of litterature. It is quite consistant all the way through thanks to the support of William Shakespeare and the way that the director handled such a crutial piece of litterature.
Now, I wish that Tolkien's massive work had been handled as equally well without being overpowered by world class visual effects. It was an amizing achievement for the Artists who worked on it but was it the sole ambition there, What would the man himself be thinking of some of his crutial characters such as the Prince of Dol Amroth not being in the film? If Pete kept him, it would have made such a good suspens storyline: " Does he get to be the King, is it him "The king who returns"............"Aragorn whare are you?".............."Nooooooo, Aragorn for King!!!!!"
(what a lot of blabber)
The films are great ) but I prefer the books as I belive that the TT film has made no justice to the book really.

Agree with Aerandir.
In the movies Faramir tempted by the ring and try to grab it from Frodo but in fact ( in the books) he doesn't!

i liked ttt in every single way exept that the fight in helms deep was just like: they fought a war and almost lost it but when dawn broke, they won... not very good as in the movie all sorts of things happened guring the war...

I like the book and the movie very much, but I like the book a bit better, because there were some things I didn't like about the movie, but I liked the book with everything. What I liked about the movies was the way how they caught the mood of the book, I think that was made so well. What I didn't like were mostly that they made the battle of Helm's Deep so long and changed the battle a bit.. but I love the added Arwen stuff.

There is no way for me that the movie is as good or better then the book. There was way to many details taken out of the movie. I love the movie of course, but for me, the book is way better.

The book was better than the movie. In the movie they changed too many details.
