There were no Elves at Helm's Deep [except for Legolas], the film makers just added them in to help the Rohan people.

But face it, that orc-and-other-nasty-species-army of Saurons was huge!! And now PJ had fun creating this insanely big army the least he could do to make it seem plausable they still didn't win, was apparently to put... tadah! elite Elven warriors...
I still wonder how Rohan could stand that army until Gandalf came...

^You've got a point Eä.
But I think they could have left the Elves out. Just to make the situation seem even more hopeless. If they had done that people who hadn't read the books would wonder whether or not they would win or lose.

Poor Haldir. =( But I'm glad Arwen didn't turn up - I mean, why, might I ask, would ARWEN be leading an ARMY?! I mean come ON! She's a pansy. She had no place stealing Glorfindel's place in FotR anyway!

Anyways, back on subject - I suppose adding the elves at Helm's Deep wasn't as drastic as some of the changes that evidently HAD to make, and it did make the fact that the Rohirrim survived so long before Gandalf got there more plausible. And just another pet annoyance i have though is that Gandalf didn't bring the Dunedain, he brought Eomer and the Rohirrim. That always bugged me.

That always makes me sad, the way he dies. It made me mad when that happened. I almost yelled That didn't happen, but my mom family (as well as everyone in the theater) would have been angry with me. *laughs a bit*

I think PJ did that to show that the elves weren't just leaving Middle-Earth to die. Even though Haldir dieing knocked the movie off the scale for being on track, the elves coming in was probably a good thing. That way it wouldn't look like the elves were heartless beings who left when the war turned for the worst.

I believe that it was another one of his tricks for those who have not read the book.

Imagine it for a while. You are watching a movie, the things are quite difficult and then out of nowhere and out of hope come the Elves to save the day. It must have been very thrilling for the audience ( I have read the books many years ago so I was really surprided to see the Elves come, but I saw in other peoples' faces they they were somehwo happy when they saw them arrive to aid the Rohirrim.)

i agree it would have been terrible if arwen had faought at helms deep. but i don't agree about the whole delicate flower business and falling over at the sight of an orc. she didn't fall at the sight of the ringwraits. i think you should watch a secret power vid located in the fan section

^But Arwen didn't face the ringwraiths. That was another "touch" of PJ's. I do think she was strong in that she gave up immortality for Aragorn, but she's not a warrior type.

At least then the line :"I bring word from Elrond of Rivendell." would make sense.

In a way, it sorta makes sense. Because of the whole telepathy between Elrond and Galadriel. But yeah, I was confused the first time too. I'm like - wait. He was in Lothlorien...

But Gandalf brought Earkenbrand in the book, he wasn't Dunedain. Or am I getting mixed up?

Yeah he did bring Erkenbrand. The Dunedain only met Aragorn when he was riding back from Isengard

yeah i know she didn't face them in the book but if she had she wouldn't of fallen over. i'm not saying she was a warrior princess or anything i wouldn't want her to be the point is she isn't afraid of orcs and the wraiths like that
