Am I the only one who finds the movie almost TOTALLY different from the book?

Well there are (obviously) a lot of similarities, i mean, otherwise it wouldn't be LotR, would it? But there was so much they had to miss out and change . . it's definately different.

PJ did his best to stick to the spirit of the book. there were some parts I would have liked to see in the movies, but for the sake of audiences who have not read LotR, he simplified it.

Yes, I think PJ did his best and with a limited budget, of course he couldn't absolutely stick to the book, and plus, he has to make it original. And his version of it cleared some things up for me that the book confused me about. As as an actress, it's always nice to look at what others have done and truly admire it, and having something to look at and say, "Yeah, that's what I want to be like!"

But, Faramir DID NOT threaten the hobbits! He was in fact very nice to them.

Yeah, that's true. But I didn't exactly take his rough manner as a threat. Well, holding Frodo at sword-point could be considered threatening, but he never verbally threatened them. Not that I can remember anyway. I avoid the Two Towers because of Haldir's death (in the movie anyway).

i agree with what you guys are saying. I think the book and movie are somewhat similiar and yet still very differant. But I too can see the reasoning behind it all. But the whole Faramir buisness makes me mad. I read the book after I saw the movies, and when i found out how nice he was to the hobbits in the book, I got really mad. The first time I saw the movie, I was convinced that Faramir was some minion of Sauron!

I chose the second option, however there were striking differences. I mean I get why the Elves came, "to fight alongside Men again", but the Rohirrim had more than only 300 in the book.... And Faramir's character was altered, and a plethora of other things, however they were both good, and both are my favourites of the trilogy.

i have never personaly red the book but my sister has told me a lot about it and they did deviate from it as I hear it.
That is one of the only thingn is would change if I could change anything about the movies is that they would follow the book as close as possible.

It is true that the movie had a lot of differences from the book (Aragorn is falling from a cliff? lol) but the movie was very good. Especially the battle.

It does, but I think the changes were necessary to make the films interesting to non-bookies.

I believe they should make it different than the book. Since Jackson wanted to draw everybody's attention to himself rather than lord of the rings.

hmmm well a lot of it was COMPLETELY changed, but there are a lot of parts that are almost exactly alike too ... either way ... the movie and the book both rocked in their own ways!
