I don't think they are completely different from eachother but there are some definite differences. It always happens when a book is converted into a movie.

I think that there are some parts that are different and some that are the same. . .

hmmm well a lot of it was COMPLETELY changed, but there are a lot of parts that are almost exactly alike too ... either way ... the movie and the book both rocked in their own ways! :)

I agree with that. Naturally the movies would be a bit different than the books, but I think PJ did a good job.

agreed, after all PJ did go back and make the extended versions of the films to try and fit in more of the story. That was a great idea.

I've never thought this type of comparison was a fair argument to begin with. Personally, I think its impossible to compare two genre as different as film and literature on a just basis for so many reasons, starting from the people involved in the process reaching to the audience for which it's targeted. J.R.R. Tolkien created a fantastic book, an incredibly detailed world full of history and language that was basically unfilmable. The creative team behind the film did their best to adapt this book into a movie; it's like reading a poem and then painting a picture. The picture will never hold as much as the poem expresses and will probably never be as profound. In my opinion, the books are what they are; they're untouchable. The movie is just the interpretation of a small group of people, so there's bound to be differences. In a way, when you watch the film, you're watching it through someone else's imagination, the way they thought it to be. I think that you can never give "justice" to a book through a movie, because its completely different. So its perfectly normal for you to love the movie, and love the books, without contradicting yourself. So pay no attention to those ridiculous Tolkien purists who think the films are the worst thing to happen to the books.

Sorry for drifting a little there, I know this was supposed to be about the Two Towers only but it applies in the same way. Personally this is my favorite film, out of all three. I really can't explain why but it was a turning point for a lot of the characters, which drove me wild when I saw it in the theater.

of course it was well done. I watch the movies (pieces of it) every day and I'm still amazed by it. It is very diffcult to compare these two genres of course, but still I think that there were some things that shouldn't have been changed as I said before.

i think both of them are good, although it was some time ago when i last compared them... the battle of helms deep is so lame in the book, as in the movie it is more emphasized! (go Legolas, kill all the orcs/uruk-hai!!!)

the biggest difference would have to be the arrival of the Host of the Eldar in TTT
