I agree with Linwe, Lol, that was the point I was trying to get across. I just couldn't write it.

maybe what Lenwe said is true... I don't know, but I haven't read very much about Smeagol before the ring came to him so I don't know much about him and if he really was a bit strange before, then it is possible that he killed Deagol..

Well he always was a bit strange. Like when he first got the Ring and realized that made him invisible, he hurt people just for fun and things like that. At this point, we can see the contrast with Bilbo, which at the same stage in his posession of the Ring, used it to help his friends.

yes that's true... I think he hurt other people, because they weren't nice to him before, or?? Maybe these experiences of not being in the community made him Gollum so fast... just a guess...

Well maybe that could have affected him in way, but I continue to there was something evil in him from the very beginning.
Take Bilbo for example. At the beginning of the Hobbit, the Dwarves seemed to find him quite useless and everything, but Bilbo did not want to hurt them for that.
I think he became Gollum so fast because the Ring was attracted by the malice in him and sort of saw "potential".

Yes. And remember, as many have said, "Hobbits are most hardy folk" So maybe, even though smeagol was close to a hobbit, he was weaker than Bilbo? And it wouldn't have helped that he wasn't a very nice person in the first place. But if you look at bilbo, he's quite different. If anything, he's quite the opposite, lol.

I don't think that Gollum was evil right from the start, but I believe that he didn't have a strong personality and that he could be corrupted very easily.

I like Smeagol. He was kind of... well, cute. He acted like a dog, somewhat. He is trying so hard to please his master. Yet in the end, evil prevails over Smeagol.

Ok, Smeagol can be cute when he leaves evil Gollum out, but I think it was too late for him to ever be saved.
At some point in the book, Smeagol was very eager to please Frodo, but he kept coming back to his evil self. So maybe Smeagol had only one Master: the Ring, which he served out of fear.

I think that he could have been cured, but there was nobody who really cared for him and had the time to deal with his problems...

Well maybe his odd sense of humour is all that is left of the Hobbit he was.

I find he's funnier in the movies than in the books. I'm reading TTT right now, and I find he' just weird(and a little scary if I were at the Hobbits' place) and not that funny. But he does say a few funny things in the movies.

I don't think Tolkien meant for Smeagol/Gollum to be humourous in the books. I think the character side of Smeagol was made to show that there is still a part of himself that wants to be good, and wants to be normal, and the character side of Gollum was meant to show what Frodo could become.

yes of course, but in the movie he's quite funny sometimes. In the book he isn't really funny, but it's ok, I didn't miss that when I read the books, because what you said was much more important for Gollum's character.
