This is actually more of a rant, but I hope to get some comments on it by posting here.
Lately, I have noticed a lot of people posting things like "Hey all, what are we talking about?" and it is beginning to annoy me. Usually it doesn't take much time to skim read a few posts above to figure out the topic. I find it particularly frustrating when you write a long post to add something to the current discussion and after a couple of posts with "Hey, I'm back, what's the topic?" it is pushed back to the previous page and no one responds to it. *pulls out hair*
I know some of the clubs and threads are visited so frequently that it can be difficult to keep up with everything, but if the post above is discussing something that looks like a current topic I find it downright rude just to ignore it and write "What's going on?". It implies that the person didn't even bother to read the last post posted in the thread. *pulls out more hair*
Also, this is a forum, not a chat room, so if you post "I'm back, what's going on?" someone may fill you in in the next post, but when you come back to read it, the topic might already have changed again, so what's the point? And it clogs the already busy threads. *is now almost bold from hair-pulling*
Is it really so hard to read back? It might even be interesting to see what other people wrote...
[/rant]
*goes to buy a wig*

Yeah I agree. I mean some topics are really hard to follow, because there are so many people posting. But for most serious discussions I must say that you can follow pretty well if you just read some of the posts that have been posted before and normally in the first post of the topic the topic is introduced. That's where I usually get the information from when I don't know what the topic is about and it has already had many responses.
Please stop pulling our ur hair Ea, it's not worth it.

You have no idea how much mods understand, Ea. It bothers us too. Particularly me when it involves clubs. It's a) a waste of time. b) A waste of energy for other posters when a person's just TOO lazy to click one or two more times on previous pages. c) It relies on someone to be ready to post with them, which most of the time leads to an off-topic conversation. If a person's not there to tell you what's "going on", what justifies your post to find out what you're talking about?

Yes, it annoys me too, and you do see quite a lot of it in the clubs. I don't see anything wrong though with people saying something like. "Hello everybody! I've had a busy week, what's everyone else been up to?", as this is more conversational than "what are we talking about?" and also refers more the RL matters than the actual topic.

Yes, it's very annoying. I guess because I always go through the effort of reading the past few pages. If I've ever been lazy and made a post like that I apologise If I say it I usually then add something to the post. But yes, I think people should stop doing it. It's rather ridiculous.

Thank you too, Ms. Gamgee, as well as the rest of you who has replied to my post.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this, but when this is said I hope it would inspire people in general to focus more attention on what people are actually talking about by browsing through the previous posts. We might get more coherent discussions. The good thing about a forum is that the posts are saved, and that you can write longer posts than on say a chat, why not take advantage of that!

I know what you mean Ea. It seems people can't (be bothered to) read nowadays ... Alright, I don't mind when it happens once or twice, if you're extremly busy or have a brain dead internet connection but it's happened so many times it's almost scary.
"hi... what are we talking about?"
"About how people can't read."

It's good to get this out, Ea, nice one.
I don't think posts like that are from members really in need of the topic. I think it's more of a way to check in with the thread [and everyone in it] and say "what's up?" or "I'm here!", except in forum-language. I guess that's pretty obvious... Because it's not like other members say, "Oh hi, _______. We're talking about ____________." and no one ever seems to feel hurt or ignored by this. A couple of times I have responded with something similar to the above, but it never recieves an answer, and therefore only clogs up the thread even more.

I prefer that way, SwedishMoose, to people who post their own ignorance about the conversation.
I say, if you don't feel like reading --- then just don't do anything. Don't post, don't read, just wait until you're lucky the next time you feel like entering the thread.
Posting "Oh, I'm so totally confused----what are we talking about?" Is just dead POINTLESS.

Thank you for posting your concerns Eä. I've actually been waiting for someone to mention this, since it seems it's becoming more and more common, especially in large threads such as the GW or other related clubs. There really isn't much to add to this, except that if people do it, I kindly remind them that they could stop and take a look at what we're talking about and then I continue the discussion. Hopefully it will put them in their place.

I agree with you Ea. It drives me mad. It's not difficult to read a page of posts to get the idea of what's going on. I just ignore such posts because if they can't be bothered to read back a little, I can't be bothered to post in reply...
Besides, I always read the thread from where I last posted, which sometimes can be 5 pages back, if I have been away for a couple of days, or if the thread is really active. (When i first took an interest in the Picture thread, I actually went through the 30 pages already posted before posting myself. It took me a couple of days, in amongst everything else, but it isn't difficult to read 5 or 10 posts just to get an idea)
But you notice that the people posting here are not the ones that post 'Hi, what're we talking about'. most of those people probably do even give this board a glance.
Yeah, I've just repeated what everyone else has said, so we all seem to be agreeing on this

Right - I agree. Those kind of posts are useless, we should try to stop them from happening as often as they do.
So - we're sort of repeating each other. Is it time for this little thread to R.I.P?

^I do the same sort of thing - if you can get the main idea from a few pages then you don't have to sit at your compy for 8 hours reading through all 200000 etc. pages. It really wouldn't kill people to go read what the previous topic is about! *fades out*
