I think you really shouldn't be able to change your name. I will state why I feel this way about it. One: If a person changes his/her name then changes the graphics I have no way of telling if I talked to this person before or not. Two: I think its downright annoying. But just my opinion, ignore me if you want.

I think that you should be allowed to change your name. I would hate to be stuck with one stupid name I chose for all of my life on A-U! But I also think name-changing isn't something people should do recreationaly. For the most part, you should keep your name. I'm not ever going to change mine. I can understand if some people loathe it and are stuck with it, then I won't balme them, especially if their former name is in their siggy. But it's hard to keep track of when everyone changes it all of the time.

well yeah .. if they change their name, they should try not to change their entire sig at the same time, because it confuses people horribly

that's what I also think... people should be allowed to change their name, but they shouldn't change their sigs and so on at the same time, because that would be very confusing...

I think people should be able to change their name, but if they do, they can't do it really regularly or anything and they have to have a thing like "Formarly was ...." in their sig Otherwise it really is too confusing

Yeah, but I still get confuzzled sometimes, even if it is stated in the siggy.
To tell you the truth, I do dislike it when someone changes their name over and over. So my opinion is that it should be allowed, but not "abused".

^yeah i think it should be limited to say ... once every few months?
or in other forums you have to ask a mod to change it for you, and you have to have a reason why...

well yeah we do, but there can maybe be a rule that a member can't change their name more than once every few months? and the mods dont have to agree to the name change... or they can take as long as say a week to change it because theres too many members?
^does that make sense?

I agree that frequent name changes can be annoying and confusing - the only sure way to tell who's who sometimes is to do a search for all their posts, and usually if you go to their very first posts, you'll see under what name they introduced themselves.
I'm not sure if having to ask a mod to change your name for you is a great idea, though. It does give the mods more work, and what's an "acceptable" name change, too? Sometimes people make spelling errors, want to add asterisks to their names to "prettify" them, etc., and I don't know if that should be the mods' responsibility.
Maybe we should have a list of "guidelines" that aren't exactly rules, but spell out what we appreciate members should and should not do?
