At the moment I'm considering making a system of symbols that people can put into their banner, so that others know membres are willing to talk about certian subjects via pm.

I know alot of members in here are relegious and would love to talk about their faith and such, but it is agianst our rules, however you may talk about your faith via pm.

But how do you know which members would like to talk about their faith via pm?
My thought is to put symbols into your banner area showing which subject you are happy to talk about via PM.

For instance you could put a "+" in your banner area representing that you welcome pm's discussing relegion or faith. or a "*" for discussing politics.

My question is, would you welcome this? Even if you yourself wouldnt use it, would you still think that it would be good for others to?
I'd like to know what you all think, I'm discussing this with other moderators too, but since you the members would be the ones usng the system, I wanted to check first weather you actually would want it before takng time to create it.

I think it's a good idea, because I think it's not good to talk about such things on the forum itself, but it'd be good to talk about it via PM

Its not just about relegion and things like that, It would also involve things like who is willing to talk about general life issues that people have...
Things like relationships, the ways of the world. Prtty much topics that would generally be considered touchy subjects in the forum.
But if you know that there are certain poeple that are willing to talk to you and listen to your opinions, it would prevent venting or it leaking onto the forum itelf.

I think that is a great idea. I doubt very much that I would choose to use it but I know there are many people who would like it. Perhaps a trial run of say 2 weeks would be good and then perhaps ask the members who tried it what they think? Then maybe later on (I know this method is for things that the forum generally doesn't like) it could be used for other conversations as well. I can't really think of any at the moment but I'm sure I thought of something before. If I can't I'll delete the above bit.

It's also good for people who don't really get to talk a lot to people apart from replying to posts...for those who sadly don't get many PM's..

i think it's a good idea ... so instead of trailing off to talking about politics and such, people can discuss it in PM and if they have an argument there, its none of our business ... i like this system ... i vote for us to use it! =]

Thats where you all come in, it will be your system of talking via pm, so I think that you all should have an opinion on what should go into it, suggestions are very welcome.

If this system does come into practise, alot of responsibility will fall into your own hands. Moderators cannot modertate pm's, so it really will be up to yourself to be understanding and not abuse over the pm's.

I really want this system to work, I think It would help a few people out that otherwise have no-one they know to talk to about certian things.

Missing Charlie already!

Ultimatley the last say will be arwens, even if she doesnt agree with some ponts of it, I'd still like to put a system in place for those who want to talk about certain problems they have without having to announce them to the entire board.

I want this system to be for those mature enough to not abuse it, to take the time to understand their fellow forum member even if they have opposing veiws. I want to encourage responsibility in the forum. get people to understand, there is a time and place for everything, respect the board, and respect your fellow members, and if they dont they will be beaten over the head with Arwens fish.

As a member I'm all ways uncertain who to talk to about religion etc. if I can't talk about it in the actual forum. These symbols will definitely help me find people with a common interest and faith.

So yeah, I'm all for it!

Now these discussions must be kept to pm and not spill over into the forum. The topics you talk about via pm isnt against the rules (the rules about harrasment and general misconduct via pm still applies if we receive complaints)

Ok, lets start with the things that people might be interested in that they may not be able to talk about (or feel comfortable talking about) on the forum about

Likes to critique fanfic
Likes to discuss about relegion [relegion in general, all relegions included] (note, please dont use pm to preach to others if they have oposing beleifs)
Like to talk about relegion, scriptures and such (not in the debating sence)
Will Pray for others
Likes to talk/discuss about politics
Will talk about 'girl problems'
Will talk about 'guy problems'
Will talk about life issues
Will answer any questions relating to drugs/alcohol
Likes to get random Pm's from people
Will councill those who need it
Likes to discuss the state of the world.
Likes to discuss the current laws
