But I mean...if you look at my post count I'm obviously not as high as you guys, it's not as though my posts got unfairly bumped up...I dunno...I'm not sure really where I'm going with this...um...yeah...

But I know you didn't mean to make me feel bad, because you keep saying, so whatever you decide is fine with me (but...I do like the sparkly stars...)

Okay, disregard what I said --- because I didn't know that the A-U's Official title was added without anyone knowing, I thought that it was informed as a prize for the contest but I guess not. I'm not at all that updated on the summer surprise contests so forgive me.

What you all say I understand, and I would be kinda mad because of the unfairness (and you guys know me, I'm all for fairness), but if you guys are suggesting a different title for which ever part either the prize-winner or your impending silver-starred title? It would certainly help the mods out.

That title is something we promised waaaay back when (:P!) the Return of the Rings started, with the Treasure Hunt.



So, anybody and everybody had a shot at winning this special shiny rank.

Yes, it is similar to the "normal" Tolkien Scholar rank, but this one's *Official*, and has silver stars instead of gold.

And, by the way, if we do another Return of the Rings next year, then someone else will have a shot at it! Oooooo...!

I don't think there is a big need to change anything, Melda earned her "official" title fair and square, plus the official part makes it different than the rank. Honestly, it isn't that big of a deal.

Hmmm. Not trying to sound too pokey here, but if the title ramains "official Tolkien Scholar" if someone wins the next year we will have 2 official scholars. Just my thoughts on the matter, disreguard them if too meaningless.

1. I think a different title is in order too, since Tolkein Scholar is a "normal rank", perhaps the winner could be given a title such as "A-U's LotR Expert"

3. Of course post count is fun! But...erm...I think this topic sort of has nothing to do with post count. I had seen the notice in the beginning of the summer, and was none surprised when someone won. I thought it was a way to honor a member outside of post count. After all, she doesn't get her COUNT bumped up - she simply gets shiny stars next to her name for knowing the most about LotR. I never thought of it as her skipping a bunch of posts and getting straight to a higher rank - to me, it was simply the prize for winning a contest! And it didn't even matter what you're post count was - anyone could win. I liked the idea.

the fact that the stars are silver also make it seem like a higher rank, no? What if, in the future, the stars were a different color, like red or blue or something (is not actually sure if they can do that) That way, you can tell that it's a rank that is specific to that person and is one that they earned. EBcause when I see a bunch of shiny SILVER stars, I think of a ton of posts *points tod haldir* when I see a a completely different color of stars I think of a specialized rank *points to mds*


Just a suggestion, though....I dunno if you can even do it.

Yeah I agree with Sam's suggestion. I think the contest was a great idea, and it's neat that they get the title....but I think the stars should be different because they recieved the title for an entirely different reason than post count. It would make it more unique, and less confusing.

Maybe...Gold Stars that shine like the Silver and Rainbow Stars. Or Silver Stars that don't shine. Or a different colour.

Honestly, I think its a great fuss over nothing of great importance.
I think be greatful that there even are new ranks and stars. We could always revert back to the old system if you all fight over it.

We shouldn't be angering the Mods when we make comments or suggestions. If we are then, Mods can you please explain to me what this section of the Forum is for? If you're going to so quick-tempered over these little things then how do you expect us to feel comfortable talking here? I don't see Arwen getting all ticked off over this ... and this is HER forum and SHE makes the changes? Why are the Mods getting so upset over it anyway ... this section is supposed to be where us members tell Arwen and the Moderators what we think of the forum and what WE think can be done to improve it, right? It's not like WE are going to make any changes because we don't have the power to do it so why get mad over nothing? If our suggestions are annoying then why are we allowed this section of the forum? Yes I understand that we can get annoying and repetitive and that you can get annoyed over all of that but you should understand how we feel, alright? We don't have the power that you have.
