Well I think a general "well wishes" thread is a very good idea. A whole variety of things could be asked and not all would be prayers. It means that everyone could use it, whether they want prayers or not.

As much as I would love to discuss religion, I know from personal experience that it really IS easy to get offended. I know I've said things that were maybe just a statement or a true question, but as pirate said, things can be taken so many different ways without a tone of voice to back it up. People have thought that I was angry at them when I really wasn't. And it's the same the other way around. I've gotten upset over another's post before, but then went back to reat it again, and realized it wasn't meant to be offending.
I know I'm probably not making much sense, and I really am only re-stating what you guys have said.
Bottom line: It's just too risky. Yeah, maybe some [or even most of us] can debate peacefully, but all it takes is one mistranslation and things get fired up.

I'd just like to point out that ghosts is not a religious topic nor is it part of any religious belief. The thread turned religious when people brought religion into the discussion, which was really beyond me.
Carry on

Well, ghosts do relate to the afterlife, which is a major part of most religions...
The point is, that discussion got pretty ugly.

I do remember a thread like that getting locked because a few people had said "I'm praying for you" - that's the main thing I was implying with my suggestion.

Well, if it was anything involving people offering sympathies, it was probably just locked because we already have threads for the general discussion of such things so that people don't make a new thread each time and thus clogging up the forum.
