I'm glad some of you are interested in the idea. I didn't know Caunion already had a forum. Where be the linkage?

I'd like to point out though that the forum I had in mind doesn't necessarily need to be strictly for debating. It could also just be casual talks and discussions on teh forbidden topics, where everyone can share their viewpoints without the worry of being challenged or attacked. There could be a debate thread on religion and there could also be a chat thread on religion. Who knows, all threads might end up as civilized and fun discussions anyhow.

I'd also like to say that if everyone who joined was able to detach themselves enough from the issue in question, they wouldn't take it personally or get offended. Flaming the issue is not flaming the person. If you take every attack on a certain issue you're passionate about as an attack on you as a person, then you're really not fit for a debate about it.

If you can accept the idea that what's true for you might not be true for everyone else and realize that their truths are just as valid as yours - then we could have incredibly rewarding and civilized debates on just about any topic under the sun. It's all about being able to separate opinion/beliefs from fact and treat others as you want to be treated yourself.

And JF, if this forum does kick off, I'd personally make sure that all members are treated with respect and let them know that they can forward any bad PMs they might have received and that the situation will be dealt with properly. Nobody should get flamed for having an opinion.

Eru, I think this idea of yours is a very good one. I love the fact that AU is free from debates and such, because it helps us focus so much more on issues that bind us together rather than drive us apart - however, it would be really nice to be able to discuss differences with people I know and love too. I think it'd deepen friendships for one, and also help me get to know these people truly better.

Oh, great.. It's an interesting idea. Thank you for the link, Caunion. I'll go have a look.
AU holds a special place in my heart so I would never leave here just to jump to another forum, but it's a good option and I hope I can find the time to contribute in the debates there. AU will still have my first priority - it's a haven and a refuge - but I'll be sure to browse through the discussions over there.

Dark-iss, A home away from home is a good way of putting it and I'm not afraid that A-U will be deserted for another forum, but it's always nice to see old people in new environments.
