I rather agree with Haldir. if you don't want to listen, then don't. there's no need to just tell us we're being stupid, just don't say anything. I'd prefer that to being made to feel like I've done something wrong.
I mean, no one is talking about this heatedly. We're just writing suggestions down about what we think could be done to make those who post a lot feel differentiated for someone who earned a title for doing this scavenger hunt thing which, while it may be just as important, is somethig completely different. I mean, I don't think Melda would be angry if her stars were a bit different. I think it would make her award just that much more special.

Yes, it's my forum, and no, I'm not really getting ticked off over this, but it does seem a little, well, silly to be arguing over...one person's stars. I honestly don't see why the heck it's such a big deal

First of all --- we all need to calm down when we re-read all of these posts because I think we're taking this a little too seriously.
The moderators + Arwen are just really concerned about why something as insignificant [dare I say] as who gets what kind of stars or what title they get is getting discussed so heatedly, and why it's so important for you all to try and suggests something of a change.
"We're not making a big deal out of it!"
Okay, so it's not a big deal to you guys. But have you guys actually read through, word-for-word what you all are saying? And it's not even what you all say, it's really the message you guys want to get through.
"It's just a suggestion!."
All right, so it's just a suggestion. As Haldir o Lorien pointed out, that is why this section of the forum exists.
To the members of the A-U Forum, thank you for taking your time and worries for suggesting a change in the oddity and unfairness of Meldawen's title of "A-U's Official Tolkien Scholar" (and stars) versus the regular Tolkien Scholar title. We, the majority of the moderators + Arwen, do not feel that it is necessary to change or make changes to the title/stars in contrast with the regular Tolkien Scholar title at this time.
So there it is. It's done. There is the response to your suggestion. Thus if you refuse to accept that answer, and feel you all will go ahead and continue discussing the changes, it would no longer be a suggestion but an issue of unfairness.
We LOVE it when you guys think of something to improve the forum and share it with us and most of the time, we do think they are GREAT ideas and we would try to see if we can do something about it. But there are other times when the suggestions are kind of extreme or on little details that wouldn't really be a big difference to the forum. I'm not saying this whole thing with Meldawen's title wouldn't make a big difference to the forum --- please don't quote me and twist my words around and play on my own post. Don't patronize us about what the sections of Arwen's forum is for.
If the problem really is unfairness then you may all want to refer to Arsarniel's post. It is only TEMPORARY. It is a title that Meldawen earned for herself through the Scavenger Hunt and if and when we have another contest or the same kind, the title will go to THAT winner. Meldawen would no longer have it. If she were to win again, then she wins the title again. How is this any different from any other race/contest that you guys have been in? The 1st place winner gets a prize. The title is her PRIZE. So it's similar to the regular Tolkien Scholar title, so what? Titles are titles, stars are stars.
What if YOU won the Scavenger Hunt? Do you REALLY believe that you would actually think "Oh, geez, this is so unfair to the other members!"?
I certainly wouldn't. I would be proud that I won that. And I would not be afraid to show off my medal.
We created the Scavenger Hunt, we created the Summer Revival, we created the new titles and ranks for all of us to have FUN. Are we all forgetting that? Are we all so enwrapped with the fact that something tiny seems unfair that we're forgetting why it's there in the first place? It's all for FUN. It's to enjoy ourselves on the forum, it's so that the forum doesn't become mundane and boring.
We can't FIX unfairness. You can try all you want, but there will always be unfairness around you. Just look, and you will see it. We can't fix it, we can't change it. You really can't run a community based of fairness, heck you can't even run a government based on fairness. It's all cooperation, understanding, communication and if we lack all of those, what do we have?
We love freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of petition, freedom of everything but with that freedom comes responsibility. The responsibility of knowing and acknowledging what you're saying, how it may impact someone else, how it may impact everything.
>.> Sorry that was a bit of a tangent.

I hadn't posted here for a while, to avoid sounding snobby (:)) but I had been reading because it does concern me. I just want to thank you, Kit, for that post - that clears everything up nicely, and I now shall proceed with my pretty stars and maybe, by the time we do it again, I will have so many posts I'll be a real gold-star Tolkien Scholar!
And also, thanks to people who commented, I'm glad you spoke your mind

Kit, thanks for saying that. Personally, I prefer that wording then 'does it really matter?' that just makes me feel stupid. I apologize for getting over-reactive, but I was kinda angry about the way you guys wer wording your posts that way and when I get like that I try at all costs to fight even harder even though I don't care. Bad habit. So, okay. No change. Fine with me. Thanks for being so awesome mods!
And congrats Meldawen!!!

Thank you for being understanding Merry & Sam. I'm sure the mods don't mean to sound so serious and they probably were just stressed out about it, we're only human!

I apologize for sounding snappish and rather rude too ... I hope it didn't sound that bad because I really didn't mean for it to ... thanks Kit for clearing that up

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to make anyone feel stupid! I was just saying...well, yes, we know what I said.
Anyway, thank you Kit for clearing this up. May this thread finally be allowed to RIP?
