Hahaha, I agree with everything Hravan said... thanks for pointing out the pointlessness of it, cause it actually doesn't make much sense to me either.
Why's it considered a celebration anyway? I change my username pretty much all the time (always have my original name in my sig though, so everyone knows I'm Haldir) and I change my banner/av pretty often as well. But I'm definitely not part of your little celebration thing. So um, this fest is for the purpose of celebrating mass user name/picture change or something?
Aramel Elyanwe wrote: Let me start out by saying that what's really stupid here is the fact that posts are being picked apart and criticised. Come on, that's just childish, guys.
FYI... that's pretty much the purpose of the quote function. I think I'm pretty mature for being able to grasp that;)

Hravan, we're changing our names because we want to. Yes, it's fun to confuse people and I would prefer to be completely anonymous, but everyone can't be happy in this situation. We've come to a compromise. The Chameleons will have their great changing fest, and AUers will be able to know who everyone is.
The Chameleon club is not about confusing people. We all joined the club because we always change our sig sets on a regular basis. I change mine about every 3-5 days, and all of the members change theirs more often than other AUers do. This name/set changing thing is to celebrate our club's 200th page, and it's to bring our regular changing to a more extreme level. We've already made it a rule that our regular user names will be in our sig sets so everyone will know who we are, and teh Chameleons can still have their Chameleotic fun. Plus, you'll know we're all Chameleons because our names are along the lines of "Cham the Chameleon" or "Charlie the Chameleon." If this doesn't make sense, someone or myself can explain more.
Jarisleif, you seem like someone who would be a Chameleon. You certainly don't have to be, but you do exactly what we do on a normal basis. Except our names, besides Lothy's and Tar's, typically stay the same.

^Hahah sis, we really do think along similar wavelengths. I was slightly upset because of the lack of anonymity, because I just have fun confusing people, and I thought that was the point of this whole shindig. But I didn't realize that people were so upset about this. So, really, I guess the put-your-name-in-your-sig rule is a good thing.
I was under the impression that, to be a chameleon, it wasn't only your sig that changed. Because my sig doesn't change as often as other chameleons, but my favorite colors and movies and such do...

That's what sisters do! We haz mad skillz.
Well, I think that other things can change besides our sets. I don't change very much except for that, but everyone has their own form of change. I have to say that I'm insanely proud to be a Chameleon!

Hello my dears,
Thank you for all the input from all sides of the spectrum pertaining to this issue of name change! I've also wondered about this topic as well, so Eru, you're not alone and I thank you for bringing it up!
Anyway, I just want you guys to know that teh moddies have been alerted of this thread and discussing the topic at hand.
In the meantime, since we have identified an issue, instead of arguing about it, perhaps we can find a way to fix it. Identifying a problem is only the first step. The next step is finding a solution and how to work towards it. So, perhaps we can now discuss a resolution that makes everyone happy and not just a select group of people!
Okay kiddehs, well, err...yeah...my friends, thanks again for all the input!

Elegost makes a very good point actually.
A lot of forums I go to you need to ask the Admins permission to change user name and another you cannot change it at all. So as to stop confusion and so forth.

I really thought that we had already come to a solution with this. Most people had agreed by the second page of this thread that if the Chameleons put who they were in their sig, then no one would really have a problem with it.
Are people disputing this now?

The solution seemed to solve the issue concerning the Chameleon club, but was there a solution for the long term issue?

I would believe that the same solution can be applied to a long term issue, placing your original username in your sig. After all, one every two months isn't a lot of time, especially if it is only for a few days.

I wasn't aware that this topic was about anything other than the Chameleon club?
To be honest, those who mentioned the fact other forums had means so only an admin could change names, doesn't really have any impact because no one was saying the club should be closed and that you should not be allowed to change your name... but just that if you are going to, then let people know who you were.
I don't think we have members who change their names frequently, so I thought that we had all decided that as long as the Chameleons allowed people to know who they are when they are changing sigs and names everyday... that would be OK.

Perhaps someone could put together a post that could explain what all the name changing celebrations are (be it a Chameleon partay or Hallowfest or a Masquerade) so that anyone in confusion could simply be linked to that explanation. And while there's a mass name change going on, those participating could put a link to that explanation in their siggy. Does that make sense? Like, it'd be one post that could provide a breif explanation for each kind of festival.
(And as the founder of the Chameleon Club, I'd like to say that our club isn't about confusing so much as changing (hence the name) and that isn't just changing banners and such. It can be about real life things, such as hair colour or nail polish colour, or a favourite fandom or actor... Essentially anything that changes. It's not limited to "We change banners and names a lot so that we can laugh at people who are confused!" That's not the point, the point is for us to be creative and have a little fun, and we'll do what we need to do to make sure that our fun doesn't rip a hole in the fabric of the universe. Cheers.)

YES!!
That's what I was trying to say in my previous post!

JF this topic was on the issue of name-changing/sig-changing fests. So it concerns the Chameleon Club just as much as it concerns the Hallowfest and the Yule Ball Masquerade. All of which were mentioned in my OP.

I was originally merely implying or repsonding to someone about the fact that the "Chameleon Problem" had been sorted amonst ourselves, and there that there had been quite a few different opinions. And then it just seemed to me, as if it wasn't sorted at all, and there was room for whatever we had decided to be overturned.
And although your post did mention those things, I for one, wasn't aware that was your main problem. I thought your main point of discussion was the here and now.
And whilst having a post explaining why people are changing their names for said event (bearing in mind, you cannot have on that post the dates the events will be taking place, because they are not set in stone, and will have to be added when the event is "on"), may stop people wondering why it's happening (although it will only affect new members, people who were absent last time, or people who don't like asking), it still won't solve the actual problem of being "confused" by who is who.
@ Ellie - I know no one was saying the club was going to be closed.. that's why I said that. And what I meant was, what other forums have, does not really have any basis on here, because we don't have that. If the Mods thought we should, or had a problem with mass name changing, the club would have been stopped from doing this, last time.
I think we must have different opinions on what is frequent.
It's not how frequently you change your name, but if you allow others to know who you were before. There are some 4000+ post members here, who I have no idea who they once were, because they have no name of their previous past AU life in their sig.

All I was saying, is that AU doesn't have that function, or as far I can see even a rule about name changing, and I just can't see anything that drastic (as opposed to having a post about these events, or having people put in their sigs who they really are), happening anytime soon.
That was all I was saying really.
