and i congragulate all of the WT members for making our forum such a warm place, and like you said, if they were to start talking about Welcoming Tatctics, it would fall down the drain, but its hard to decde what they should be doing in the Team...

Well, that is the question. If we talked about topics such as books etc, then we could go and talk about such things elsewhere, so unless we just say "no one word posts or useless posts" (and that goes for the WT and GW clubs as well), then I don't really know what to suggest.

Clubs are meant to be focused, like it or not. They're meant to revolve around a common goal, topic, interest.... not a myriad of them. The gentlewoman's club and others were started under the understanding they would be just that...centered on a comman theme. Not a place to chat, discuss your everydays and so on... (there are other places in the forum and elsewhere on the site to do that) Now please, I'm not trying to offend anyone, just clarify what is meant by our club section on A-U. I know that for example the NC and GW have tons of members...which is awesome! But, to keep it fair for all of our many, many clubs...we have to come up with a way for them to stay on a general topic. Again, little steps out of line aren't bad...but the majority, at least 80% or more of a club's posts should be related to the name/interest of that club. That's my understanding of what is meant by that section of the forum, and I agree with it.

Tinny, I shall worship every day from this moment on. That's been exactly my point this entire time, thank you for wording it better!

We're still discussing the matter of what we'll do with WT.

Hmmm....I see that the main debate here now seems to be that we're having problems staying on topic and finding a purpose in the WT.

Well, I don't know if this would work or not, but maybe clubs like the GW and NC and then the WT could have their own thread in Your Life that is exactly like what we're doing now. Just a place to talk about whatever has happened in our day ect., but we can still 'bond' with the same group of people. Then, the original GW, NC, and WT threads could still exsist in their respective forums, but in those threads, you must talk about female things, evil/Nazgul things, or welcoming/welcoming announcements ect. I don't know if it would work, or if people would like it, but it's just a suggestion... I think it might solve the problem of being on the correct topic, and also people could still bond with their club/team members.

Did that make any sense at all? :P

It did make sense to me, but the problem is that if we did that, the clubs would die in no time...

The clubs need not die... people don't be so hasty in jumping to the death of a commonly shared group! If your friendships and shared interest are true, you can continue to build those, however you decide.
Also, people you need to again realize Clubs are NOT Chatrooms, not places for idle chatter... they are meant to have a goal, a purpose or common theme, as I stated previously, forgive me for repeating. Anyway, it seems simple to me, rather than debate off-topic-ness... You as a club or clubs have a choice, either decide to find some way to stay on a general area of topic, or like a few have said, maybe consider a change in placement if you'd like to have more reign in topics discussed. Just an idea, not a mandate...but something to consider depending on what's best for your group(s)

And side-note...Kit...lol  Thank you so much! You gave me a wonderful laugh.

Well, I can see this from both sides.

I think that the Welcoming Team thread is here mainly so we know which members are welcomers. The actual idea of the Welcoming Team is to be as welcoming and kind to newbies as we can so they can feel welcome as soon as they join.

On the randomness of posts in the WT thread:
Yes, we do jump around a lot in the Team...but there are almost never one or two word posts. I think that we try to have a specific topic every two or three pages that we stay on for a while...but how can we be expected to discuss one thing all the time? Frankly, I think it would get a bit boring, if not impossible. I also think that the WT is about having fun with fellow welcomers and talking about things you want advice on or are feeling sad/happy about and want to share with others. I know that many other clubs find it very hard to stay on topic as well; even if we all tried very hard to stay on topic all the time in these huge clubs, we would eventually stray to another topic.

I agree with what Larael pointed out. Would we move the Nazgul Club, the GW, or the Welcoming Team to Misc. Randomness? I don't think so, since they're not strictly 'random' threads. The NC is all about expanding evilness, the GW society is a club for females to get together and talk, and the WT is all for making everyone feel welcome. So, if you think about it, they don't really fall into the 'random' catagory, even of some of the things we discuss might be. :)

Arya, you've just summarized many of my thoughts with that one post. I especially agree with this thought...

Yes - discussing the same thing would get boring, and I do like that Kit is giving us things to discuss in the GW, but no change would make everyone tired. We all need change once and a while, even if it is as small as a topic. I think we should be allowed to be a little random, but have boundries. It is a good idea to steer us back on topic every now and then, but I think what makes these clubs so popular is the fact that they give us a little more freedom than other topics and we can discuss more than one thing. I personally like things the way they are, but that's my opinion. :)

*IMHO*

True, clubs are supposed to have a purpose. But can people of like mind, sharing the same purpose, not also enjoy each other's company and converse in the name of a club? Certainly each club has its own topic: say the Nazgul Club and its evilness. But that does not neccesarily mean that the entire thread should be devoted to discussion of evil; only that within that thread lies the discussion of people attracted to evilishly things.
In real life, clubs may be formed on a certain topic, but that doesn't mean there is never small talk within a club meeting - and that isn't neccessarily a bad thing.

I just see clubs not as down-to-buisness places, but places with an overall theme that connects the people within. A-U is like a club, in a way. We are all here because we love LotR, but not every post is dedicated to the single subject either. A-U is a club for LotR-lovers to come and discuss a variety of topics, with that one LotR banner connecting us all.
That's how I see a club.

*coughcoughelmoandsesamestreetcoughcough* But again, agreed, there should be a varitey of things to talk about instead of one main subject. Or things in relation. Take for example an Orlando Bloom Club wouldn't just talk about him - it could talk about his movies and get opinons for others. It's not directly focused on Orlando, but things in relation rather.

IDK, I'm just trying to help.

*fades into darkness* :bye:
