How did you make sure people didn't use your username after you changed it?

I come back a day later to see 3 more pages! ...And a lot of chatting going on. This is a planning thread, guys. Let's keep the posts strictly dealing with solid ideas for the ball/party.
There's no way we're going to be able to organize this whole thing, let alone choose a date, when everyone is randomly posting when the can come and when they can't come, with a couple of ideas mixed in. I know I'm coming off as all fired up, but it took me a while to read through all of those pages, because I wanted to be on top of what we were talking about and what had already been said. But out of all of those posts, only a small number of ideas were shared.
Okay, end of rant.
Haldir, your idea of a bash/party is good. I'm such a traditionalist, that I'd miss the quaint atmosphere of a ball, but A-U parties are always fun, too.
What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

Ok, well first of all can I just say -
It will not be possible to accomodate everyone
And it's true I'm afraid. With people at school, going on holiday etc etc etc etc...it's just not going to work out for everyone. So far that seems to be mainly people's priority in getting a date when everyone can attend. So I don't think setting up a poll is going to work, as even if a month is chosen there will still be people saying "not that week I won't be here" etc etc. We members have never really had much say about dates as the Mods have usually chosen a week and we decide what dates for the events. In a way, I wish the Mods would do the same this time, as then it won't be a case of "everyone choosing a date for themselves".
OK, so we have ruled out a Masquerade ball. We have decided that at least.
Here are some ideas:
How long will the ball be A day? A week? A week would be good, or even just three days. Hopefully some people could join in.
How about having the ball outside in the gardens? In the pavillion? In the grounds? With fountains, lanterns in the tree etc. A band in the bandstand. And having a little banquet outside, on long tables, that will seat everyone.

^^ Yeah, you're right JF, it will probably the best that the mods will decide on a date. But I can't be helpfull with any ideas because ehm.. are we like allowed to make up everything?
Sorry that I'm kind of condfused, but I haven't really participated in organising anything like this before.

i think a ball thing would be neat to have outside, with the whole atmosphere and such like. Three or four days sounds good, one day isn't long enough and a week might start to feel way too long.
and a Masquerade sounds scary... and anyways, i dont know what i would change my name too...

I love your ideas for te setting JF. I have an idea - how about a Shire-themed summer bash? We could have everything 'happening' in Hobbiton since everything is so green and carefree! It seems like a summery location.
If we don't want it in Middle Earth, that's fine to--it's just an idea.
I think 5 days would be a good length. Less than a week, but long enough so that most people should be able to peek their head in for a bit.
Also...I'd like to remind people that the Mods probably should have a place in this. It's great that there's so much input, but eventually yes-or-no decisions will have to be made, and they might be the best ones to do it. *shrugs* But everything seems to be going great for now!

Sorry Gwen. Maybe we need to set a topic or something so we don't get side-tracked, everyone just has so much they want to say or ask all at once... Yes, this is true. Unfortunately there will always be people who can't be there. *Sighs* Well I think 5 days to a week, we don't have to have a week, 5 days or even 3 would be perfectly adequate. But then 5 days or a week would leave a bigger window of opportunity for people to join in.
Gah, there's very little point in me doing this, once I go back to school it's going to be work work work until June, I probably won't get to help with any of the prep. *Sighs*
EDIT:
@ RA: Good points, and yea, we probably shouldn't leave the Mods out of this. Lol.

*Cries*
I didn't even know tin was gone. I hate missing things, so many people come and go and I'm too busy to notice. Oh I think I'm going to go to bed, this is too many tears for one night.
I agree with you though JF, on both points. tin will be missed and we do need to find general holidays for countries rather than individuals' holidays.
*Sighs*
Goodnight all, perhaps tomorrow will bring fresh ideas to me.

I love the Hobbiton idea Riniel. It definitely fits to a summer ball.
I also think that a week would be quite long for the ball, I think 3-5 days would be a good length.

a Shire theme sounds neat! reminds me of the end of RotK where Sam is talking about strawberries and cream... that would be nice.
