Dude, why are we trying to get rid of the name changing function now? We've had it for more than 4 years. This is the only time we've had trouble about it and we're well on our way to solving it. Stop trying to make A-U more of a conservative place than it already is... next you'll be asking to disable sigs or something, honestly.
And why the hell are we bringing LAW into a freaking LotR forum? My god!

There really is no way to win this with reason or law. The fact is, some people like to change their names for fun and events, some people don't and find it annoying that the others do. Quite frankly, I think that just because some people don't like it shouldn't make it against the rules. I know it can be obnoxious, but it's only for a few days and only every few months. I say let the people who like to do it have their fun, and those who don't be a good sport about it and take it in stride. If you don't know who someone is, then you don't know who someone is. It's not your fault, it's theirs. Just address them by their "fake" name. It's up to the Chameleons and Masqueraders not to expect everyone to know who they are.

I thought all this had been resolved. We were going to make a thread somewhere explaining the Masquerade, Hallowfest, etc. and link to it when those events are going on.
EXAMPLE wrote: "As you may have noticed, members of this forum have celebrations or parties where they change their names and sigs as a group.
The Masquerade takes place during the Yule Ball, the weeks around Christmas. The point of the Masquerade is to hide your identity, so you won't know who each person is. However, they will have a note in their sig letting you know that they're participating. The Masquerades last only a day.
The Hallowfest is the whodunit? mystery we play around Halloween. Some members change to Halloween sigs and names. The Hallowfest will probably be two weeks long.
The Chameleon Club is a club for people who like changing, be it names, sigs, or things in real life. They have random celebrations full of mass changing. It can be confusing, but they will have their usual names in their sigs. You will also know they are part of the chameleon celebrations because their names are "______ the Chameleon." Their celebrations vary in time length, but usually wouldn't last longer than a week.
All of these things might be a little confusing, but you can always ask someone participating if you have questions about the celebration or identity. And if you want, you can join in the fun too!"

It's very true folks, he never did.
I think we both probably confused people by our discussion, so I apologize for any confusion or stress or annoyance.

So did I Nur
Great post, if people would put that in their sigs, that might solve a lot of confusion me thinks.

Yeah, we should just put this subject to rest, people, because we're clearly come to an agreement, and it can only get worse if we keep discussing it.
