Pretty much. For advertising, just bring it up in main threads and that should do plendidly. However, we need to get back to organizing so that we have something to advertise for.
It should be initiating the 9th. Like.. in a week.

I agree. It should begin in one weeks time.
So first off, how many weeks exactly is this going to run?
We know we have our having 2 balls, both lasting a week each. An opening and a closing ball? The closing ball should be the premiere party setting I think.
There should be a list of contests/activities, so we can decide how many to have per week. If we find we have 10 in the first 2 weeks and only 2 for the remainder, that will be pretty pointless.
Once we have out list of dates and how things are going to play out, there should be a seperate post for it so we don't get too confused.

I was wondering, since contests are a bit longer to get all entries in and such, shall i start the beginning post of the colorization contest now? or wait till the 9th... as well as the RP... should we set that up, allow members to get a feel of what the RP is about, set up their characters and such and then start it the 9th?
I am taking summer school right now, that ends friday, but I work at nights and college starts back up early august... but I always have time to get on and such every now and then when college starts back up

First of all, great idea. I have the perfect scene in mind from the documentaries.
Second of all, will we be reading the books this summer?

I think before any contests are started we should probably get a list going about what contests there will be and then possible dates for when they start.
I don't think any contest should be started before the 9th, but have a pre-RP thread seems to be a good idea to get people interested and ideas flowing.
I also think when it comes to contests, people should realise that the deadlines are quite tight, and that extensions are probably not going to always be there for them.
I think book reading would only be good.... if we all read a making-of book... we're more concetrating on the behind the scenes film stuff than the actual story this year.

A making of.. there is also Sean Astin's an actor's tale... not sure if that is about only lord of the rings or sean astin as an actor haha...
okay, I will talk to Aramel and get the details of the RP so we can set up a pre-rp thread

From my point of view, contests should all start on the 9th, and the next round should be up every two weeks. This should keep things flowing nicely. For the extent of voting and such. Voting and the next round can be up at the same time, but each round should at least be closed and have the voting up before the next round starts. Please tell me you all understood that. I seemed to be rambling.
Getting the starter RP threads is a great idea!
Hmm.. reading? We are going to have to find the book to use and announce it. After that, we can have a better planned date as to when to start.
I am getting the pre-ball threads up right now. I will post the links in the ball planning section.
I think this is going really well so far.

I agree this is going excellent and it is so fun, and hectic, and fun to plan... for the colorization, there are so many actors... i don't think we will get them all for every two weeks? or maybe we will... I am not good at math ><
if not should I do some weeks with two of them... like Billy and Dom as one?

Let's see... you can make them shorter, if you wish. That is just the minimum requirement. Um..
I am believing this is going to end the middle of August. So, let me count the weeks for you.
June 9th-June 23rd
June 23rd-July 7th
July 7th-July 21st
July 21st-August 4th
August 4th-August 18th
So.. that will be, at least, 5 rounds. If if goes well.. you can make the contest times shorter. I do think you are going to have to pair up actors, though. However, if it goes really well, you can keep it up past the summer.

I'll do all the main actors first, and then go into the more obscure cast... and if it goes well I will repeat... and thanks Smeag!!!

Neat idea for this year's RotR, guys. I need to watch some of the commentaries and documentaries again.
I'm liking all the contest ideas, and even though I don't tend to have time to participate in the various balls, they sound fun. Also, as A-U's current "Official Tolkien Scholar," I think I'm technically responsible for this year's Scavenger Hunt. Would anyone be interested in maybe having an bonus category for the commentaries this year, in keeping with the "beyond the movies" theme? (Books and movies would still be included, since that's kind of the point of being a Tolkien Scholar.)

Ok.. I have both threads up in the Misc. Randomness Section. I will return to work on this more when I come back from work.

I think some contests will only be really one round, so I'm not sure if starting them all on the 9th is a good idea. BUT as the colourization contest is going to be an on-going thing, that makes a lot of sense starting it at the beginning. I'm still not sure when I'll be starting the quiz smeag, but it will probably be nearer the end of July than before. I think finishing all this mid-August sounds very good.
I'm not sure if a scavenger hunt would be required this year, as that was something the Mods set up as part of the events for previous years and I don't know whether it would fit with what we have planned. This year is about behind the films than the actual books or even the films themselves. Any planned reading or watching will be to do with the making of the movies. I don't know if the Mods plan anything for Bilbo and Frodo's birthday this year, but perhaps it could be used then, as a celebration and maybe a few other events celebrating LOTR knowledge could also be organized.
