I think that having the Scavenger Hunt would be just fine. It's tradition, and besides that, it would be rather sad for Melda to have been the OTS for only one year, only to have me hold the title indefinitely. It's a fun little contest, and there's certainly no harm done by having it again. My question was about whether or not I should include a bonus category (to fit with what you have planned), not whether we should have the hunt at all.

JF -- I'd happily do some spreading of the word round abouts the mega-threads. I'll definitely be sure to add a bit to the discussion as well so that I'm not sabotaging or anything. I'll take the first wave if that's okay, unless of course, you've already done it.

In my experience, the Hunt was something we did over the course of a summer, because nobody was as busy as they are in the rest of the year, and had time to hunt. I don't really see what the purpose would be in not doing it - we had very little Return of the Rings stuff going on last year, and the Hunt still went on. Also, since the award is holding a title for the year, it seems like gypping the winner to postpone it until later, especially since it takes 2-3 months to run. I don't think there IS an appropriate time for the Hunt - this entire forum is LotR-themed, why do we need to wait to do an LotR event?

Oh no, I think we should keep the hunt. It feels more appropriate to have something keeping us rooted to Tolkien and the books that ultimately gave us these movies.

As for the scavenger hunt. I think we should definetly keep it. I would hate to spoil a tradition, and, as Lareal pointed out, the books were the pre-making of the movie, so I see how that falls into the theme. Although, it would be cool to also add trivia questions about the making of also, like from commentaries.
