The one vote - wider count difference was done before?

Ew.

Just going to throw my thoughts out here--

I think that only exact ties should be redone, but within one point I can understand. Even a few points if there are two people WAY ahead of everyone else.
But I think if you make it more general than that, it's just unneccessary. I noticed that they did that in the past and was slightly confused--where was the cutoff point, anyway? And if someone had won...why not just keep it that way? Awards will come around again in three or four or six or whatever months, anyhow.

Just my opinion. Whatever the majority (and mostly the mods) think, I'll happily go with.

Ah, so maybe I was right in thinking that happened then.

Well I suppose it kinda looks... I don't know. If member A is on 20 and member B is on 19 and everyone else is -10.... "oh, my gosh those two are so far ahead of everyone else and yet there is only 1 point that stands between them, that is so close when they are clearly ahead".

Actually, thinking about it, I do also recall 2 other categories at different times, that were also like I mentioned. I presume Ivy had some sort of system for decding who was eligible or not, or what the reasons where. I can only guess really as I don't know.

I'm not familiar with how it's usually done, then. I was always under the impression that only clear-cut ties went on to the tie-breaks. What Ivy has done in the past, I'm not familiar with.

Do we want the following circumstances to be sent to a tie-break round?

a) true tie-breaks
Haradrim Award
Aramel Elyanwe - 9
Calloniel (PD) - 9

b) one vote difference, with.... what? 5+ votes ahead of everyone else?
Lothlorien Award
Aliana Fae - 15
Johnny's Fan - 14
Next highest count - 3

There is one situation with the Merry and Pippin award, where the counts goes
7
6
5 & 5
4 & 4

Do they get to go onto the tie-break, they're each one vote difference but it's a close count. Which, if we're going with the same idea, that means the person with 7 votes gets the win because it was close, but not so far from the others.

Okay, we really opened up for a bag of.... something here! :P
Regarding the tie-break question, I know earlier I was advocating tie-break rounds if only one vote seperates number one and two - like Ivy probably did it too. However, it doesn't mean the world to me. We can do either. I just want us to come up with a fair system we can agree on - also for future rounds.

But now I can't help thinking, whether it's fair that only a handful of people decide on this, so perhaps we should put up a poll on this... *coughcough* No really, I'm serious... :halo: Okay, I'm kidding... :P

Right... I'm just talking here... I don't know whether people think it a big issue or not. It looks like [s]most[/s] some of the people who have posted here want to go with Kit's model b). Can we go ahead with that one for now, perhaps? Finish this round of MA and when the [s]winners[/s] people with most votes have been found, we could open an evaluation thread here so people can post their comments, inputs, opinions, suggestions for the future MA.

If this continues to be a member based event due to [s]Kit, the lone mod's sanity[/s] staff shortage, it would be great to write a manual for the MAs, post it in the MA section, so whomever wants to organise the MA in the future can start a thread here, get a group together and go ahead. Perhaps we also need to discuss the number of awards one can 'win', whether we need new categories, how often we should hold the MA etc.

^All the things you just suggested sounds like a fabulous idea, Ea. I'm all for it if you guys are. I think it would do the whole forum good since Member Awards have gone out of the hands of moderators into the member themselves.

We can finish this round's Member Awards with.... ? Which one are we going with? True-ties only then?

Alright then. We all agree that true tie-breaks get a second poll.
According to Riniel's and JF's last posts they wish a second poll for model b). I don't know with the Merry & Pippin? I feel we should put the two people with most votes in a new poll if the Lothlorien award gets a second poll.

What do we do with Larael? :-) She won the Istari [Wisest/Most helpful] award and the Numenorian [Best oldie] but has already gotten her maximum of four awards in previous rounds. Should we pull her out and pass the award on to the next person? Personally, I don't have a problem with her recieving another award or two. However, it was also suggested we pull her out and reward her an honourable mention, but then we need to do a second poll on the Numenorean award because the people next in line have gotten 5, 4, 4, 4 and 4 votes respectively.

We'll go with true-tiebreaks for now since we will have, hopefully, a full set of guidelines for Member Awards in the near future, probably before the next member awards round.

I'm not gonna be worried about Larael getting the current awards she has won. Haldir o Lorien has an accumulation of 6 awards in the Hall of Fame, while you and I, Ea, have four each. Larael will be added to the Hall of Fame after this round and will not exempt from nominations for future MA awards until thought otherwise.

Alright, that's great. Haldir got 6 awards? That's cool, my only concern was that she or someone else would find it unfair for her. I'm fine with it [s]and it will make things so much easier[/s] and since you and I are the only others in that... Hall of Fame thing, I guess we can decide. :P

Please go ahead and post the polls, dear Kit, unless you want a couple of more comments here.

Sounds good to me. :) If we're going to make any big changes it's probably best they're left for the next round.

So. To confirm... these are the current final counts and the polls that are going onto tie-breaks.

Bill the Pony - Calloniel (PD)
Defender of the Professor - Aerandir
Rivendell - Johnny's Fan
Marry and Pippin - MontanaBohemian
Lothlorien - Aliana Fae
Numenorian - Larael
Istari - Larael
Nazgul - Tar-Dis
Hall of Fire - Lady Dark Moon

Those going onto tie-breaks...

Haradrim - Aramel Elyanwe & Calloniel (PD)
For the Shire - Aerandir & Altariel Frodo

ETA: I've posted the tie-breaks, whoever has the ability, post up reminders for everyone to vote one last time.

Thanks for putting the polls up. :-)
I can make a post in our MA treads around the forum, I just need to know when you have set the polls to close?

And the list of MA winners so far looks correct. I know Ali is working on the awards - I can't wait to see them!
I engaged Nurr to make Ali's award. She has time and she is impartial. :P

Sounds good. =] I set the polls to close after 10 days as you suggested.

I posted reminders in Your Life and Misc. Randomness.
I'm looking forwards to closing this - it's been a long way to the end and the fireworks. :-)

The polls have closed. The members of A-U have spoken. Hear their voices!

*drumroll and melodramatic music*

Aramel Elyanwe (there are dots over the ë, isn't there? Elyanwë... no?) won the Haradrim award [Most into something other than LotR] and Aerandir won For the Shire [Most loyal LotR fan].

Aliana will PM the awards to Kit (I hope ;-)) so she can post them in the MA section.
And then we should probably PM the members who have won awards and tell them to pick up their award in the MA section.
Is anybody available for helping out? :-)

Also, I'd really love to post a general Member Awards evaluation/new ideas thread sometime, like we talked about earlier.
