If there is any space, I could help run a poetry contest for each week or somesuch. Cant forget us poets! :P

Certainly, if you know that you'll be able to watch over it for most of the summer... I'm terrible when it comes to poetry. Ha ha! xP

So then would the Writing contests only be for prose then, if there were separate poetry contests?

Don't remember what prose is, but I believe the writing contests are for like short stories.

Smeag is right - the writing contest cover writing prompts based on LotR, while the poetry contests do just as they say - cover poetry based on LotR. So yes, the writing contests are prose. ;-)

Lareal, if you want to have like an Amazing Race thing... I think we should set it up outside of the Scavenger Hunt, but have the Scavenger Hunt be a part of it.

Can someone explain to me how the Scavenger Hunt works exactly? I saw it in passing last year and wanted to participate, but I didnt quite understand it ...

The Scavenger Hunt is where a question is asked, and you have to look through Tolkien's works to find the answer.

Mm, I think I'll stick with the straight up scavenger hunt. I'm not acquainted enough with the Amazing Race to get that going.

That's fine. I will talk to people and see if anyone is interested.. then we can see if we are able to plan out a system.

After the 17th, my time is totally my own. Ill be able to do so. My idea, is that what Ill be doing is running a contest for each seperate week, and points will be awarded for things like creativity of language, faithfulness to original text/area and peoples, general poetry stuff, and all that jazz.Possibly get overall scores done if its popular enough. If the prose peeps wish to help me out, or wish to supervise, I aint got no problem :P

I could do with the graphics peoples cooking up some tasty awards, perhaps I could bother the Mods for an epic title for the overall winner if it is popular enough :P

Ill burn that bridge when I find it :teehee:

As for prose writing, well, I suppose it could take the shape of short stories or somesuch. Thats why I asked to do poetry :P

I thought so. Just double checking :P

The whole prose-poetry distinction should be made... Prose is story-writing and poetry is poetry... Its a bit hard to mush them all all together, because creating them is very unlike. I mean of course you need to have inspiration and all :P But they aren't the same.

But its up to the Mighty Organizers ;) Theres practicalities involved that my poor liddle brain cannot comprehend.

And then there's the whole "Prose Poetry" aspect of it all. So it can be quite confusing, but I think there's an obvious difference betwen the contests... it should be fine.

Could I do some focus grouping here? :lost:

I'm trying to figure out what night would be best to hold the DVD view parties on. I thought a Friday or Saturday night but no body seems to be on then! So I ask: what night(s) would be best for you and why?

Hm, another issue with that could be the timezone you're in... I will be on the computer nearly every day since my summer officially begins on Saturday, but I don't know if other AUers will have that same schedule... :erm: You could try scheduling it on the weekend like you said, but adjust the time so more people are on, if that makes sense. ;-) I know a lot of AUers are located in North America and England, so perhaps sometime when both countries are awake?

Well, I'm on the east coast of North America, which is why I was surprised to log on a Friday evening sometime before the Crash and find it nearly deserted! :confuzzled:
Time-wise I was thinking around 7 pm EST, when it would be 12 am in the UK, which isn't too terrible. (Not great, but all I can do, short of shrinking the ocean. :P)
