Post subject:  =Evil Spammers=
As some of you have already noticed, lately we've had spammers joining our beautiful forum like crazZzy. So, Mods are working every week, sometimes daily, now to go through the list of new members and eliminate people like these who join simply to advertise products and/or sites (other than LotR sites and fans) and never post or post randomly to advertise some product that has nothing to do with LotR or anything else or our forum. Trust me, we know there are a lot of them and we're trying our best to catch them...but if we miss someone, please pm me (I personally go through the new member's list about three times a week to delete such spammers as do other mods) or pm another mod so we can keep the forum clean, thanks! :) I'm off to delete such a person's post now and check if they spammed anywhere else....Have a nice day everyone!

Oh yeah I've seen those people ... they post these really nasty links that I dont even click on cos the URLs are gross enough. well i usually PM Sida when I see one of those (pretty often :confused: ) cos she's on alot :P

:) That's fine too, as long as one of us mods finds out so we can delete the icky posts...lol I deleted 10 users yesterday alone that were joining just to advertise prescription drugs. bleh...Thank goodness most of our members join for the real reason the forum's here. :D

Ah yes - good ol´ bots. Hate them - I´m an admin on a LotR forum and I´m the one deleting all the stupid users... 10 new "guys" in one day? :blink:

And when I saw a nassssty posssst I PMd the main mod account and got a response a month later. :lol: That´ll teach me to rather send a privatey to an individual moddie, lol. You guys are doing a great job with deletin and banning methinks ^^

lol...deleted 5 already today... and thank you everyone, we try to catch them all, but some are sneakkkyyy precioussss and we miss one here and there, but we're trying to get as many as we can and keep them from messing up our nice forum!

Aye, the mod team is doing an exellent job. I mostly notice the spammers on the tag board, but very rarely on the forum.

Great job moddies! I've only noticed about 3 people with the same link to a not so family-friendly place in the last 2 weeks. Next time I went to see if they were still there, and they were gone. Woot!

I've had some spammer PMs a few times, but I usually can tell if they're advertising something if they ask me to look at a certain internet link, ect. Also, I would advise looking at the subject title of the PM, since that can sometimes (although not always) indicate if the PMer is sending a spam PM. Whenever I get icky, gross PMs from a member who didn't join A-U to talk about LotR and enjoy themselves, I always, always, always PM Arwen or a mod to notify them about the member. They will probably be the ones who can best put a stop to the said spammer. I seem to remember Jo saying something like: "I'm not superior, I just have more buttons to play with." These "buttons" can be used to delete spammers from A-U's midst to make everyone feel comfortable coming here.

[Sorry if that sounded a little odd, I'm just feeling rather - well, formal/ceremonial at the moment. :happy:]
