I just noticed... the Istari rank is plural... isn't it supposed to be Istar - singular?
I agree that Istari may sound better though :)

Owh, and about the Tolkien Scholar rank. I think it was debated whether it was confusing with an award called A-U's Official Tolkien Scholar and a rank title with a similar name. Perhaps it could be solved by changing the Tolkien Scholar rank to Ainu... it would fit with the other rank titles, since, well, Ainu is still a being within Middle-earth whereas a Tolkien Scholar, in my opinion, is one of those brainy people spending years away from sunlight in a dusty library, writing their long thesis on the grammatical structure of later Quenya...
I know a Vala is technically an Ainu, but I just like the name and I've always seen the Ainur to be above the Valar.

Not to seem...selfish, or anything...but the Tolkien Scholar issue has been discussed at length and the Mods have given a decision on the subject, so I don't think it's really open to debate, if you know what I mean ;)

Yep. Tolkien Scholar thing has been discussed --- however we can check on that Istari rank if you guys feel the need to change it. :)

Alright, I didn't quite pay attention to the Tolkien Scholar discussion, that's fine though... I wont be concerned with that rank anytime soon :-)

And concerning the Istar/Istari rank. I haven't noticed for so long myself, so I can live with it, just wanted to share my err... discovery :P

I think we originally thought about making the rank "Istar" when we came up with the new ranks, but we decided people might be confused by it and "Istari" sounded better. If the general consensus is that "Istar" is better, though, I wouldn't have a problem changing it.

^Owh.... we posted at the same time.
*points to earlier post*
No to me it's not a problem. I'm not a purist on things like that, just wanted to let you know if it was a mistake.

Ahh, yes. I remember that we had a whole.... dilemma about that one. Istar, Istari. Istar, Istari.

The "Rider of Rohan" was tricky too... we were trying to come up with a singular version of Rohirrim, because not all of the people of Rohan were worriors of course, AND keep it short and sweet. :P Rohir? Rohanian? :rain:

teehee.

Yeah, according to the Encyclopedia of Arda, Rohir is the singular of Rohirrim...but it just sounds STRANGE :p So we went with Rider of Rohan :-D

I mean, you never really hear anyone refer to a single person of Rohan as Rohir, just "man" or Rider.

*nodnod* Sure.. Rider of Rohan is good... reminds me of the way Aragorn calls to Eomer and his men in TTT!
And also Ringwraith is great *pets rank*

Owh I can imagine the discussions you must've had about the new ranks, but they did turn out quite nice! :-)

Maybe the fact that we never hear/see a person of Rohan referred to in the singular tells us something about their culture... they're very community-oriented, maybe? The people are more important than the person?

Ok back on topic :P

Very true. But yes. xD On topic.

Well, no one has really said much (the members I mean) about the Istari rank so I assume we don't really have to do anything?

You mean you didn't know there was a singular for Istari? Istari is the plural. Personally, I like saying 'Istari' to myself better than 'Istar'. But you know, I talk and read aloud to myself, which isn't exactly normal, so maybe that's just me.
