We seem to have directories for everything now and to be honest, are they really needed? It just seems that people are trying to be MOD's by starting these up. I don't find them helpful, and so do some others who i've talken to about this. Its madness!

I think they're just organized. People start them up, Mods like the ideas, and they sticky them. No big. Even though you and some people don't think they're helpful, alot of other people think they are. I agree that there are directories for just about everything, but I think they're useful.

I do admit there is a sudden surge of Section Directories but they're not exactly uncalled for, it's just a use for referring back to a certain thread. Sure, it's not NEEDED, but it saves people a lot of time by going through each page to look for it since we have so many chatterboxes. There are many details in life that are not needed, but are made. For example, the invention of an iPod. People certainly don't need it, but people find it helpful and very entertaining.
I first came up with the Club Directory to try and organize the Club forum more because we had several clubs for one subject and many clubs that have been created and abandoned and that's not exactly what the stereotypical "Club" does.
You may not find these useful, and don't use them at all --- but it's pretty easy to ignore them I think, as we do to a lot of threads if we're not interested in the topic.
I disagree that they're particularly trying to be mods, being helpful and trying to be organize doesn't call for it to exactly be moddish. Perhaps these guys are just fed up with having to search and search and not finding the topic that they want? At least they're doing something about it, and they're going out of their way and volunteering themselves to open these directories to make it easier for themselves and for others. Who are we to prevent that?

Hmm...I get the feeling we've heard something like this before. But that could just be me.
Like Kit says, if you don't like these directories, then don't click on them. Just like I don't like the Harry Potter films so I don't waste my time going there. Or is there a problem because some directories would like information to be posted? Because again, we've had all this before. As for the contest directory, I have become so used to people not posting information, I do gather the info myself. So feel free to start contests, and not tell me - I'll add it anyway.
And again, as Kit says, I think me, Timx4 and Frosty to name a few, just wanted to be helpful, and we are fed up of trawling through posts trying to find things, when with a simple list, it will make things easier for everyone. We don't ask much and we don't expect gratitude or thanks, but it's nice to know that these things are appreciated.
Hmm...I'm sure none of use would say "no" if we were offered the post of a Mod, but alas, there are probably better suited members for that role out there and anyway, I think our Mod team do just fine.
Sorry if I sound a bit ratty, but as I said, I have basically heard this before...and I had 2 hours sleep last night.....

Personally I like all these directories. I don't usually use the RP one, but the Request and Contest directories give my contests and any personal requests of mine some extra publicity so they'll be seen. That's from my perspective.
It's also an organisation issue. We want this forum neat and organised, aye? It's nearly impossible now to find one thread that's lost amongst hundreds of others. Especially in such popular threads as these.
As to whether the creators of these threads are trying to be "mod-like", I say not. They are simply members like you who want to help out by making this forum neater, and helping others save time. They've been a big help to me. However, if you don't like, just don't go in those threads.

I just want to give my take on this, since I'm one of those who has made a directory. I know, personally, when I first got the idea, the only reason I wanted to make the directory was because I noticed how cluttered the rp forums are. There's so many roleplays in there, with many of them being posted in quite a bit every day, and the less active ones can easily get pushed down to the second or third page(in the Non-LotR forum, anyway). And, as a roleplayer, I found it a little disconcerting to have to keep up with all the roleplays I'm in, especially when they were apt to be pushed down to the second or third page(which, of course, you usually don't look at that often). And thus, I thought a directory would make things simpler, far more organized, and also make it easier to find a quick link to a certain roleplay.
But yes..that's just my two cents. I personally think all the directories are very helpful, (I frequently use the Club, Requests, and Contest Directories, myself). It makes it so much simpler to find a certain thread, though of course, you could take longer and simply search for the thread among several pages of other threads. And, as others have said before me, it also adds a certain amount of order and organization.

Yes, that was another thing that bugged me. I could never keep an eye on all the contests I had entered, so like you with your directory, that also helps with the RP's you are in.

I for one, would like to once more say thank you to all the members who help this site keep going, keep it clean, organized, friendly and so much more. The mods often get very busy keeping up with every section/new member, spammers, contests, awards, the chatroom, tag, and forum...it's very nice to have some members volunteer and help out in areas that interest them, such as the directories. So, thank you to all of you... I know many of us neglect to say it, but please, know your input, help and suggestions are very appreciated.

Scarlett, what you're saying about members wanting to be "moddish" is not ridiculous. I can understand where you're coming from.
But if you think about it, these directories must be extremely hard to manage. I've found that simply running one contest is a bit strenuous. Just think about how many contests, RP's, clubs, ect. are made every day. I think it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, and I doubt that someone who simply wanted to feel they had more power than the average member would be so dedicated and serious about their job.

lol... Scarlett, no one is saying you're hating... no worries. It was sudden that they all came up at once and suddenly we went from 2 directories to about 5....but some people just love organization and classifying while some people can also just dig for our favorite threads or posts. Whatever floats your boat as the cliche goes...
