i can't figure out how to claim a banner, can someone tell me how?

If you want to claim some of the webmaster's banners, you might be a little late, as I'm not sure there is any left of this round. You can find the thread here: http://arwen-undomiel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12858
In the first post you can read all about the 'rules' of the claiming.

But lot's of people have regular banner claims. You can find them in the Request sub-forum. Some banners are premade and some costumized. You may want to take a look around to see what people offer, or you can start your own thread there and ask what you specifically want.

To get an image in your signature, you go to your profile and scroll down to signature.
Put
[img]URL%20of%20your%20banner[/img]
in the signature and that should be it. (To get the banner URL right click on it)
I know this isn't the most explaining answer, but ask again if you still have problems!

Yep, Eä explained it pretty well.
You post the link to the banner in the box at the bottom of your profile where it says 'Signature.'
