Ok. *takes a deep breath* I have some things to discuss involving the forum and in general the Welcoming Team (please do not lock this topic as we already have a thread about the WT - this post will also contain non-WT stuff as well).
First off I have to tell you, that there are a few members here who are pretty unhappy about the WT situation at the moment. I'm not going into why they are unhappy, as it's obvious now nothing we say will make it better for the WT members. My main pet peeve is that Larael and Gwen, didn't even hear about this, which since as they seem to be in charge of welcomy things and worked with the mods for the buddy list, seems a bit unfair, at least they could have softened the blow, as although we were expecting some resolution to the problem, we had no idea what would be happening. However, there are also a number of people who are afraid to speak outright about their displeasure...because, and I hate to say it, the Mods.
They all do a great job, and it can't be easy putting up with us members, but still some people are afraid of the mods reaction to things they may post, if they complain about something that the mods were involved in. I think one of the major fears is the locking of topics that a) the mods think no more conversation is needed (the topic has been discussed in full, whether one or two members haven't yet finished or not) or b) topics get locked in case the situation gets out of hand. I mean, it used to be a joke when people said they were afraid of the mods, and we had to put people at their ease and laugh it off. But I hate to say it, as much as the Mods hate to read it, that in a way it's starting to be no longer a joke. Were all so uncertain now if we post a topic (especially in this section) and we obey the rules about what we can talk about, whether it still will get closed down or not.
So you see, as members we are a bit stuck. We feel we can't complain and yet we feel we must. There is a currently a 5 member PM conversation about the WT, because we couldn't say all we wanted to in public. And I'm sure that isn't right that we feel we have to talk via PM's just to keep our complaints to ourselves.
This is a great forum, I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again, but it seems to be getting to the stage where people are all smiling and happil posting, when really they're not very happy at all about things.
Anyway, that's all I can think of for now.

Yes, you are quite right Larael, but again because we all like Arwen and appreciate the fact that due to her this forum is here, that is another factor why we feel we can't complain. It has been mentioned on the ocassions such topics like this has come up, that this is Arwen's forum etc etc, and we know that and we are grateful, but it sometimes feels like were being told this again..I don't know...to make us feel bad, and feel like we haven't the right to complain you know? I know this isn't the case, but you can't help what you feel.

I agree with what JF and Larael said. I occasionly would like to comment or complain, but I don't want to be annoying and seem all stuck up and ungrateful for this wonderful forum that Arwen has made. And I agree with Larael that this is Arwen's forum, but also I think that the opinion's of members should be listened to, even though I'm sure the Mods make all their decisions on what they think is good for everyone's needs. (Ok, I'll stop babbling now...)

I think a few complaints aren't bad, especially if it is for something that could really make the forum better. I don't think we could hurt the forum in any way by just giving our opinions. Arwen's given us something great (what else would I do with my time? ) and I think we should help to make it better.

I would like to draw this out and say we really do appreciate everyones comments and suggestions, we really do listen (contrary to popular belief sometimes) and we do discuss the ideas posed in this board. I really [s]think[/s] want more people to use this board to discuss their problems and ideas.
Also, if you have a problem with something and only discuss it with fellow members, nothing will be done, but if you pm a Moderator, you have more of a chance of having a positive outcome to the problem. People shouldn't be afraid of us at all, because we're people too and we face many of the same dilemmas as everyone else and believe it or not, we make mistakes.
I suppose all I really wanted to say is; "We really do listen" sometimes it takes us awhile to act, due to developments in our real life or we're just trying to comtemplate all the outcomes of the situation. But I promise, we do read all of your suggestions, I know I do.

I agree with all of what's been said, so I'm not going to repeat it all.
I think that people sometimes just get a little frustrated when things get changed and we don't really know that it's going to happen. And it's not just the Mods, I find, that people are afraid of. There's some members that seem so very high up in persona, not so much post count or the like. So when people post their views, they get pounced on by these members, and then the members' groupies come and have the same opinion and it all just makes you feel very small.
But that was not a rant, nor a rave, just a comment. We all love the moddies and we know you [and Arwen] only have our best interests at heart, but I think sometimes, occasionally, we feel we don't get a lot of say in some things.
And now I feel guilty. I'm very sorry if I have offended anyone.

JF, I was actually hoping you'd post something like this. I knew there were a bunch of you venting and talking things over through PM, and while that's not always a bad thing, it's just not going to solve anything, and may even increase bad feelings towards one another.
I'm sort of repeating stuff I already posted in the old WT thread, but I feel like I should say it again. I was knocked off my rocker when I saw things had changed around, and that, yes, neither Larael nor I had been notified of it beforehand or afterwards until later yesterday.
I don't mean to smile, twiddle my thumbs and pretend that everything is okay, and I didn't before, either. Things feel really out of whack right now, but it WILL all be worked out. Continue to give suggestions. I think it's best not to become angry, point fingers, or anything of the sort now.
Think about it: almost every snag we've hit at A-U has been solved in the end. Maybe everyone wasn't happy, which will never happen, because no one can please everybody, but the mods have shown that they do try and get as close as they can. I know it doesn't feel like it right now, nor does it ever when things feel unfair and confusing. But right now things are being unraveled, voices are being heard, and I encourage everyone to keep talking, not only amongst yourselves, because that will do nothing but form barriers.
Well, I guess that's all I have to say...

I'd also like to add that when you do comment and suggest, you must realize the difference between expressing an OPINION on the matter and moving forward to what can be done and asking questions about what could be done, and what actions could be made.

She has the right to wipe out this forum in one fell click of the button. Dictatorships don't always have to do what the people, but they do have to have the support of the people want, and unfortunately, I don't see that here.
I think you said it perfectly, Larael. I don't have much else to say; everyone else has said it all, and I agree.
I just wanted to say that I guess I'm feeling the same way, but I hope none of the Mods or Arwen take it the wrong way - you're all wonderful =]

I guess I'm also saying I agree with previous posts. We love Arwen and the Mods, but sometimes they are a bit intimidating. It is certainly a much more comfortable place when the masses agree with the actions of those in charge.

@ Kit: But isn't that what we're doing? We're just doing it in a different way. Instead of sending all of us in one big mob to bombard all of the mods with PMs concerning this issue, we're sending just two people [Gwen and myself] to talk it over respectfully and thoughtfully until an agreement can be made.
This thread is just a way for our members to vent their feelings, so that we will not have to confine ourselves to just PMs. As of right now, we nearly at 7 or more people PMing eachother over this because everyone was afraid to talk about it. No one wants to get hurt you see.
As soon as this is all over, please feel free to lock this thread, but until then we would just like some time to express ourselves. Thank you.

That's not what I mean. A lot of suggestion threads contain a lot of opinions on whether or not something should or should not be done. If members want something to be done, we expect and prefer posts of suggestions on how things can change and what we can work on.

I wasn't speaking specifically on this issue just in general suggestions and comments.
