I've noticed that a few people on here have been 'taking' banners from people. I've seen a few ones dedicated to me that have just appeared in some people's signatures, and they didn't ask me for premission to use them. This is annoying me because it feels like banners I claimed and requested are being stolen without my consent to use them. I'm not the only one who this has been happening to; I've seen some other banners dedicated to specific people in these members' siggys. I don't know if they asked to use them, but they certainly did not ask me if it was okay.

Personally, I consider this stealing. The banners were taken without my consent and I'm not sure I want them being used without me knowing.

yeah, someone used the Jack Sparrow banner i got from Arweb, it kind of irked me, but i didn't bother to PM them or anything... And yes, it would be nice if people asked to use banners... because really, they are the person's property... kind of.

I don't know what banners people were using, but Arwen puts all her banners on the main site with a note saying they are for everyone to use. Many of the banners on the site are old so the people who had them dedicated might not even be active here anymore or might be using other banners now.
I haven't noticed if it happened with new banners and dedications, at least I haven't had it happening to me, but I *never* change by banners anyway...

I agree with you Johnny.

I have only had one annoying time. I made a banner that I was using, and someone else was using it at the same time. I just thought it was kind of odd, so I PMed them about it to say that it was alright to use it, but I would really like them to ask first.

The weird thing is that they asked someone else, and that person told me they could. That irritated me.

Arwen made my banner.. it has a dedication on it, and since I've been using it for quite a long time it would be strange to see another member with the same banner... but I know it could happen when I claimed from teh webmaster.
Now, if I had made the banner (don't worry, it will never happen)... I might want people to ask me to use it since any graphics I make would be mine with copyrights... but I would be very flattered that people wanted to use it so I would of course allow it!! But as I said... I don't know how people feel if they actually do make banners!

The same person using Darkeh's banner is also using mine. You wouldn't know it though, because it is dedicated to my old name, Lilliana Sparrow.

It didn't bother me. I actually found it comical.

I've made an avy for one of my rpg character and once as I was wandering on some forum I saw it for an other character... At first, I felt so angry! Because well, I've been using it for many many months and I've made it on purpose for this character and no other!
Then I've calm down and I just thought it was a bit flattering because after all, it meant that it was a success! LOL!

Yeah, it must be flattering Nessameldë.... but I also think people should pay more respect to other peoples work...
Same thing with DeviantArt, Photobucket accounts and other graphics sites... people tend to borrow a lot from those... because it so easy... but it doesn't make it right.. (though I might fall for it too, if I didn't think about it).

That would be a good idea, JF. Maybe I just feel protective of my 'property', but still, asking would be better than just taking without consent.

Put a big copyright notice on your graphic(s). Makes them (nearly) impossible to steal but also quite ugly .

I totally get you, Aramel. This has never happened to me, but I would be upset. Firstly, because they never even asked me, and secondly, because now I don't get to use it! I mean, I could, but it wouldn't be new and pretty.
