Maybe it's just me, but I find the huge number of good usernames taken by completely inactive members slightly annoying. I mean, looking through the member list is horrible because for every active member there are two that have absolutely no posts. Wouldn't it be possible to delete all the members with a very small number of posts who haven't posted within the last few months? Just a thought.

good point! it didnt happen to me, but sometimes you just cant get the username you wish, and you could sent a warning pm or something so it wouldnt be too unfair for the deleted member

Usually we've made it an unofficial policy to give those names one year before deleting themn. If they are names with lots of posts we do not delete them at all unless the member requests it. But yeah, a lot of good names are used up like that!

I think it'd be unfair to delete a member who's actually posted (however small that post number may be) but I could definitely agree with deleting users who haven't even posted at all. Not everyone has the time to come on here daily or even weekly so being inactive for a few months doesn't mean the person has no interest in the forum still.

But, when you look at the member list, nearly have of the members here have posted 5 times or less. I think it's rather ridiculous to keep them, if they're not going to join into the discussions.

I think that any member that hasn't posted ever should be deleted within a month of joining. Or maybe send them an email before deleting them (or would that be too much work?) I also think that if a member has posted, but hasn't been active for, say 6 months, they should be sent a warning email, and if they don't respond, then delete them. I have not had any trouble with taken usernames, but I know how you guys feel!

I think that deleting people who have not posted is a good idea. If you send them an email after say, three months on no posts, and if they don't answer, or still don't post, then delete their account.

However, if someone has posted, they should be kept, no matter how few posts they've made, because technically, they have contributed to the forum.

There are some members that joined in June 2005 and haven't posted anything... I think it would be a great idea to delete those people after sending them an email. And for those who have posted some post, but aren't active after a few months anymore... well, inform them and if they don't answer after some time delete them...

There are 51 members who joined between February and December of 2005 and have not even posted "hi I'm new here". I think those people should be deleted - never mind sending them an email. They have probably forgotten they even joined so why should the Mods spend time sending out emails. People who have posted once or twice - but not in the last 6 months should also get deleted. If these people choose to disappear off the face of the earth that is there choice. People who have posted 10 times or more but not within the last six months should probably be emailed and reminded.

I agree. It's been over a year for many of these people - they really clog up the member list.

That's a very good point, however, they can always make a new account, it's not hard. Anyways, since they haven't posted anything yet, they wouldn't be losing any post counts once we delete them ;)

So 35% of the members are completely inactive?

 If that's true then...wow.

I definately think inactive members should be deleted. I think what Johnny's Fan said makes sense. I have a question though, when a member is deleted what happens to their posts?
