Please.
Every two months since OCTOBER we've had to endure organized name-changing/incognito fests. And it's driving me and a few others INSANE!
October - Hallowfest.
December - Yule Ball Masquerade.
February - Chameleon Club.
And now it looks like April will see another one when the Chameleon Club celebrates their 200th page and invades AU incognito and completely unrecognizable as they'll change their usernames and signatures and keep on changing on a daily basis and even change banners with each other.
I've tried to keep my mouth shut about this because I know many of you love this kind of thing (though I cannot for the life of me understand why) but now I feel enough is enough when a fourth one in just six months time is about to happen. Us who don't want to take part in these so called celebrations are forced to whether we want to or not because the people involved are obviously posting all over the forum.
Is it really too much to ask to know who you're actually talking to?! On a FORUM where we have to rely on usernames to distinguish people?! ARGH!
And come October it will start all over again. Oh what a joy. Not.

Well it may seem like I'm biased because I have always been involved with the Masquerade and the Hallowfest, but I've always thought that although we did change usernames, people were pretty much informed as to the duration and the occasion. And for the Masquerade it has only even been 2 days, and just so people don't think it's a member randomly changing their name, most members do at least tell you they are part of the Masquerade, and I believe some people had in their sig who they really were for the Hallowfest.
^ I know that really doesn't help your problem, and I do understand it, but I'd like to think (save not having either events at all), that we did try to dispell some confusion, or at the very least prepare you for the changes.
I must admit, I was very surprised to come onto AU and find everyone changed their names for the Chameleon Club, as I had no idea that was going on. And I was even more surprised when people changed every day.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this (if I did, I would be a hypocrite) but I would just like to point out, as an ardent fan of the Hallowfest and the Masquerade - this is confusion on a far greater scale.
But I do understand your problem. Because to be honest, I see everyone graphics before I see the name... so when people change their sigs it confuses me and I have to re-adjust.

Oh wow, I didn't realize people felt that strongly about it. I always saw it as a fun thing. I'm glad you said something, I think most people see it like I do.

I'm just going to repeat what I said in the Chameleon Club here:
The celebrations we have are specifically meant to confuse, and specifically meant to be a change in pace. Change being a good thing is the entire premise behind our club. If other clubs had similar celebrations, we wouldn't hold it against them anymore than we expect people to hold it against us that the members of ours want to do something like change our signatures every day, or wear the same signature every day. There's no rule saying that we can't and a lot of people find it enjoyable. We had four new members join because of our last small celebration and we'd like to get more, because we know that we all have fun.
Now, most of us do generally put our regular names in our signatures in plain view, especially if we know we'll be posting around areas of the forum that aren't necessarily privy to what's going on. On top of that, if anyone thinks to ask about it rather than complain, all of us are more than happy to explain what it's all about.
If you have any other comments, feel free to let us know. As far as is planned, our 200-page celebration will still be going on.

Just going to throw my 2¢ out there.

*Is comforted by the fact that Haldy put a Haldir banner in her signature*
Okay.. in my opinion name changes are no fun. I can understand that people like it, but let me explain it from my point of view: I recognise people by their username and that's the way you know who you're talking too. There are lots of people who just randomly change their name and do not put their old or regular name in their signature. Often it happened to me that I only discovered after months that a person I had been takling to was someone familiar and I didn't even know that.
I think that the Masquerade and the Hallowfest are okay since these name changing events are of limited duration.
Perhaps Chameleon Club thinks that name changing and confusion is fun, but others just... don't. They might prefer the familiar names over that. So would it be too much to ask if everyone would just put their regular names in their signatures? Cause like Haldir said, I would feel dumb to ask every Chameleon member for their identity. And I hope it's not your aim to make other members feel dumb.

From my understanding, we were going to put our names in our signatures.

Like Haldir said, what other club would do this kind of thing? None that I could think of.
You Chameleons see it as innocent fun and games and that's fine. But we're being dragged into the so called fun and games when we don't even want to take part. And since the whole point of them is to confuse all members of AU, we don't even have a choice in the matter. How... thoughtful of you.
It's the same with the Hallowfest and Yule Ball. Even when you don't want to be a part of them (like me and a few others) you have to deal with them all across the forum anyways due to members changing their identity for a few days.
If this was a one-hit-wonder and only happened once in the history of this forum, I wouldn't see it as such a big deal (though annoying nonetheless). But now it's been a recurring trend for the past bloody six months! Every other month there has been an incognito fest. Every other flippin' month! Can you honestly not see how that could be annoying to those of us who don't want to take part in these celebrations and events?

^ Exactly. The last fest you Chameleons had practically none of you put who you were in your siggy. And you all had identical banners and avatars which made it even worse.

Let me start out by saying that what's really stupid here is the fact that posts are being picked apart and criticised. Come on, that's just childish, guys. I mean, really, there isn't going to be a solution to this, and both sides know it. No one is going to be happy no matter the outcome.
Yes, the name changing can be confusing and frustrating, I understand. But perhaps the fact that we are putting our names in our signatures isn't registering with you all. You'll know who we are, and that should be enough. Why aren't we allowed to have our own fun because other people are against it? That doesn't seem fair to me, and isn't AU about being fair and respectful to others? We're being respectful to you all by putting our names up, so the least you could do is let this whole thing go and let us have our fun.
Personally, Eru, I think you're blowing this out of the water. It's really not a big issue and it should only be the business of the Chameleons. We're not breaking any rules or forcing anyone to join us. Sorry.
I for one, will still be following through with the name changing, and so will many other Chameleons.
