Hey guys, sorry it's taken me so long to get this up, but if you still have some vague memory of the Hallowfest this year, feel free to share your comments here:

What did you like about the Hallowfest?

What could have made it better?

Could it have been organized better?

Finally,

What are your thoughts on doing a similar type event during the summer time?

I liked that it was a little slower than previous years because it was easier to keep up with posts.

Kitoky wrote:

Putting all the clues on the main page. That would have been very nice.

Kitoky wrote:

It was well organized. :D

Very yes. :)

1. I liked, well, everything...getting to know people, the whole nice socializing part about it, the fact that something new would always have happened.
2. I agree with Freya. Also, you know, if it were a little longer so we had more time to think...not that we would have figured them out anyway probably...Never mind.
3. It was perfectly well organized. New things to do and interesting things around the corner; it was well set up and very well run.
4. Definitely. They help to bring people together and all...and they're much fun.

What did you like about the Hallowfest?
The socialising. It's great to come together with so many other members around an event like this.

What could have made it better?
The elimination of time zones! Things are going very fast when 10 people are online and posting at the same time and it usually happens very late at night/early morning in Europe. However, I think the pace was reasonable and it wasn't too difficult to keep up, and I do realise that we Europeans are a minority - and I'm not counting JF and Larael since they are posting at some very un-European times. :P
But thanks for murdering people during Europe-friendly times, or at least revealing them when it's still broad daylight in Europe!

Could it have been organized better?
I didn't miss anything. I liked the various in-house events that also made the 'plot' progress nicely. I mean if it weren't for them we'd have been eating even more breakfast muffins! :P
Also, for me the time frame is alright. One week was too short, but I think prolonging it for a longer time will make the event more fragmented. I think I might loose focus on the murder mysteries and the clues.

What are your thoughts on doing a similar type event during the summer time?
Sweet, go for it! :-)

I don't have that much time so I'll answer the others later, but as to a summer "Hallowfest":

I'm in the minority, I'm sure. I don't think we should do it. I love the Hallowfest. I love the ideas behind it. And I love that it's special. I just feel that if we make it happen more often, it will go the way of the balls and fests we have all the rest of the year. And I really just don't want to see that happen.

Well said, Nurr. I was thinking something along those lines too but got too caught up in excitement. I never fully participated in the other balls on A-U but I love the Hallowfest because it's connected to Halloween, finally an occasion to dress dark and for the night! :P

However, I do think a summer event could work out. I think we've got a pretty dedicated crowd around the Hallowfest and perhaps we could attract some new participants to get onboard if we had a summer event. But I think it should be slightly differently themed. Obviously, it can't be a Halloween theme but there need to be an equally catchy theme and a setting. I believe a lot of the succes depends on the organising and setting the right stage and mood so the participants have something to 'play around with'.

What did you like about the Hallowfest?
Everything! Although I'm particularly fond of creating theories and figuring out the clues-- or at least stretching them as far as they will go.

What could have made it better?
To be honest, I missed the fast pace, although I know I'm probably the only one. :) I would have liked more murders. And it seemed we were always guessing, before we had even had time to regroup and gather our thoughts again. Maybe we could have one less guess, so the others would be more spread out.

Could it have been organized better?
I don't think so. :) Except for what I said before about the guesses being close together, it was well organized.

What are your thoughts on doing a similar type event during the summer time?
It wouldn't hurt to try. I do think Nurr has a very valid point. But, like Ea said, I think with some brainstorming we can adapt it to summertime. Maybe we could be vacationing on a yacht, like in Death on the Nile. It could be great, because we could stop and sight-see on shore, like in the book, and someone might get crushed by a falling boulder. Horrible accident, or...? :yeahright:
And provided that we keep our normal, creepy-crazy type of Hallowfest. :D

What did you like about the Hallowfest?
Basically, everything. :P I love the way it's done, the fun extra stuff, and the community event it becomes.

What could have made it better?
I agree with Taur about maybe having one less guess. I know that makes it even worse for us, because we can't rule out another person, but perhaps if we could stop and catch up on it all near the end, we wouldn't miss it too much?

Could it have been organized better?
For one, we don't want you to kill yourself with organizing. :teehee: For the other, it's awesome as is and I don't think it really needs much more.

I'm glad you guys saw my point and I'm not a horrible person. :) I think if we can get a good way to do it, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try. I do like the yacht idea. I just really don't want it to become "just another of those things" we have.

Hmmm, Nurr has a point. I like the idea of having more things because I love how Hallowfest brings us together and raises activity. I haven't ever been to one of the balls, so I can't pass judgment on that...I think that if it was changed enough to make Hallowfest still as special as it is, but themed with summer, we would still have distinct events. I just don't like seeing us all reduced to playing the alphabet game or doing the "what are you listening to?" all the time, and these events get us all into a great mood and have everyone checking up on it often.

^The games are addicting little things, do you think we play out of our free wills, nonono, we have no choice! :P

About having one less guess, isn't it all about being better advocates for your murderer? I mean yes, everyone is gathering around one or two suspects right before the guesses but we should be better at holding on to our clues even after we've made a wrong guess and turn them into play again. And after we've had a guess there is one suspect less so I can't see how we will loose anything from many guesses - since we all suck at guessing anyway. :)

I love the summer outing theme by the way!

^ :P Oh dear. Well I have to concede the addicting part but you know, I meant that's probably the highest activity is... let's spout useless information because it's addicting and a bit fun.

Yes, we do indeed suck at guessing. We kind of drop the old things when they don't seem to point to who we wanted. I'm serious, one of these years I'm going to keep a running total of all possible clues and try and fit them to each possible character; I'm sure if we'd done that we may have managed to figure out TT, if we made random explanations for how they could connect to her (Actually probably not but it's nice to hope, right?). It's just hard because I need to be acquainted with you all more!

And I wish more people were killed. It might help us a teensy bit more. I like having guesses but the only problem is it distracts us because we go off on tangents...

I, personally, think the Hallowfest went great. Kudos to Kit. :) She did an amazing, epic job, in my opinion. :P

Uhm, a SummerFest? :erm: I really have no definite ideas on that matter. I can totally get where Nurr's coming from, but then, it would be cool to have an event where people had more time to post, etc. Hm... I honestly am divided there. ;)

From what I saw of Hallowfest, it was ingenious. :)

I'm also split on the Hallowfest in the summer. I think that if we turn it into something different, it could work. (Example: A beach party where a guest is talking a walk and mysteriously disappears. The body is eventually found, and the AU guests not only have to find out the killer, but also the cause of death. Maybe there could be an accomplice leaving clues instead of the ghost returning to give hints.) It's just an idea. :-D

A little late here. BUT…

What did you like about the Hallowfest?
Like Freya, it made me sorta happy that this year moved so slowly… it gave me time (as oppose to last year) to post more and interact more instead of spending my compy time reading through 10 pages of new stuff. I also liked that the story seemed to progress easily and it was intriguing and fun.

What could have made it better?
I would probably say more clues (or maybe just one or two more obvious clues… though that was sorta done with the spiders, I guess) or more murders… more time to think about the clues.

Could it have been organized better?
Hmmm, no. I honestly think you did an amazing job organizing it and putting together clues ect, Kit.

What are your thoughts on doing a similar type event during the summer time?
I would love it... I do get where Nurr and others are coming from... it could partly ruin the specialness of the Hallowfest... but I also think it could be a very fun/good new thing... I stand with TT, I guess. :P but I would say that if it can be done there's no harm trying it out at least once. We'll never know til we try it.

Naw, I agree with that.
As I've said before... overkill.

I think to be honest there is a HUGE difference between the balls and the Hallowfest. Every single day of the Hallowfest is different, the atmosphere is different, the postings are different and even with the same set up and sometimes the same event, it is different each year.

We have many balls in a year. The layout is always the same - choose a partner, choose a dress, what shall we have, what shall we do. The posts are gerenally all the same, people greeting and imagining things. There is nothing to drive the gatherings.

The Hallowfest is different. We have Kit and we have the murderer. Both manipulating the goings on. It can never be the same. And how can you get tired of something that is always different? That's why the balls are tired and not well attended anymore.

A summer equivalent of a Hallowfest is going to to be so different to the main event - for a start it ain't Halloween, and secondly, it's going to be centred around something different and there will be no doubt different events. Maybe it won't need to last 2 weeks this time, maybe we'll even get new people to join in, which in turn will make more people want to join the one and only Hallowfest. Perhaps a shorter even would be the way to go - just to make sure it goes well, if it's popular then maybe it could be taken to 2 weeks - and as someone said, if it's absolutely wrong to do - one Summerfest is not going to kill the Hallowfest.

I think we need to give this idea try. If there is something in the summer months that makes us all excited and creates interest in AU again, then I think it is worth giving it a go.

My only thoughts for the Hallowfest: I actually missed the speed of last year, but then again I didn't. We had a bit of speed and slowness this time round, which actually suited me time-wise and although sometimes it was a bit too slow, for others last year at times it was probably a bit too fast, so I can't complain. The essay style posts were pretty much cut down a bit a few days into the fest, so I can't complain there either. I also find the end very sad, as people just drop out and drop off, but there's not much we can do about that so..... all in all, I enjoyed it as much as I always do, and I think a Summerfest could definitely bring a new twist to these murderous gatherings. :P
