The time is drawing near of pumpkins and mystery, mansions and murder! Are we wanting to do the Hallowfest again this year? I'm willing to help plan and such, but I thought it'd be good to talk about since we've almost finished with September!

Beat me to it. :P

Yes, we HAVE to have the Hallowfest again this year. I thought last year went pretty well, maybe a few things could have been done better, but once we figure out what could be improved, I don't see any reason not to continue with this tradition. :D

Also we have lots of new members to AU who I'm sure would enjoy being part of our Hallowfest. :-)

I'm afraid I won't have the time to participate this year. Of course, I'll help out when you need someone with shiny buttons but since I'm not on most on you guys' time zones we should probably lasso someone like Taur too, she is usually active in the Hallowfest. :-)

So, what do we need to get rolling? I've not planned it before. Sign ups, yes? Layout. Who wants to host? What all should be planned pre-event?

I think two hosts really worked out last time. I never could've managed without JF last year. I've looking at my schedule, and I've got some pretty big commitments over the next few weeks, but luckily things will have calmed down (to a merely normal state of busy :P) by the usual time of the Hallowfest, so I think I would be able to co-host again, if needed. :)

I won't be able to be involved in the organizing this year but I will be taking part. :D

I think rather than polling people on when the dates should be, you guys should just pick a week/fortnight and the rest of us will have to just go with it. It gets complicated when you try and placate everyone. :-)

Banners for advertising are a definite must, and as there will no doubt be a lot of people who are new here and don't maybe understand the Hallowfest or indeed view this section, I think more posts about the Hallowfest need to be posted around the forum in places where people will see them.

Agreed. I think once we have the dates we should start posting the info everywhere. I likely have the time, I could co-host with you Taur, if you're up for a newbie hoster. :)

As for dates, I wouldn't think we'd want to go into November? Usually people calm down on the murder front by then. Two weeks, one week, week and a half? Two weeks ending Oct 31 would put us starting next Wednesday. I think we can have it set up by then, but how long should we be aiming for?

I think if you have it at 2 weeks it can be both good and bad, good because if it is as awesome as we know it can be, then you can never have enough days. If it's a bit meh, then 2 weeks can seem very long.

I think sometimes some of the events can be hit and miss, and make the 2 weeks go quite slowly. In as much as people don't always know when they start and end because of time differences and sometimes they don't catch peoples imaginations. I think maybe this year you guys should come up with some events that as well as being forum based, should also allow people to do something in real life as well (example: a contest for who can take the prettiest autumn picture, with the hosts awarding prizes. The prizes are real; graphics. And Hallowfesters take real photgraphs as well. There won't be such a strict time frame as say, a Hallowfest ball. You could also do a "draw a Halloween scene" or "create a Halloween outfit" using various internet images).

But I am definitely for the 2 weeks, because I think we need to give everyone the chance to enjoy themselves for as long as possible, and I am sure that yourself and Taur can get it altogether within the next week or so. :-)

I think.... that I might not be able to attend this year.. :'(

I'm packed with study-stuff and exams in those weeks and I'll be flying to L.A. on the 30th to visit my sister, so I will probably be stressing out by that time about my first real plane flight!

Perhaps I can have Sparkle pop in a few times, just to cheer the Horseman up..

:bye:

If you postpone the Hallowfest until a week after Halloween, I could be there. :)

*pats JF on the head*

Now I feel bad as well.

It seems like A-U is quieter these days and we have few oldie members who can hype up Hallowfest. I'm thinking that perhaps keeping it shorter than two weeks and limiting the activities around Halloween to maybe one or two.. like a contest and a pumpkin carving show off thread or something.

And maybe we should take full advantageof the Hobbit coming out later and fire up on the social activities around December with Hobbit themed Winter ball, RL dress up threads, contests and everything Hobbit related since there would probably be more people around.

Yeah, I was wondering if two weeks would be too long. I think people *could* find ways to amuse themselves, but at the same time I don't want them to lose interest. What if we started the 21st? It would give a little extra time but not a scary amount.

21st sounds good.

But to be honest I'm not always sure people read these boards so it could be lack of oldies or lack of awareness about the Hallowfest so far. New people won't really have a clue what this is about anyway until more details are posted. :-)
