Post subject:  Forum Time

Okay, don't laugh at me if this sounds stupid, but I was thinking about something. A lot of people from different time zones post on the forum, right? Well, I know that it's hard - especially for RPers - to communicate times. I was thinking, maybe we could have a universal clock - Forum Time. That way when we say "1:00," we don't mean someone else's "9:00." Just a thought, I know it's chimerical.

That's actually an interesting idea! :)
If it would be possible for it to say at the top maybe it is now such and such A-U time as well as your own time (maybe not on posts, but on the main page or something) and then when people want to work out time zones, they say "forum time" and everyone could work out their own conversions from that...

It would save confusions that arise with daylight savings and so on. Hm...

 WOW- people actually like it....lol Yeah. It's just to avoid Math (which I sometimes find myself at odds with...:-P ) and for people who might not want to give away their Time Zones.

Do some people really not want to give out their time zones? There's multiple countries, even continents in one time zone.

Anyways, it would be really convenient. Although...you might not be avoiding math. Because you would have to figure out the relationship between your time and the A-U time. Still, it's better.

Nah...if you just figure that it's, say, 5:00 forum time now, and your friend says she'll be on at 9:00, then you just say, "Okay, four hours from now." You know? I think it'd be easier.

yes, and we only have to figure out our time once. ex: midnight A-U time is <whatever> time for me! then figure it out from there. sounds awesome!

Perhaps I don't get it right, but that link Jo gave us, is that the time A-U is on? I have it 8:00 here.... let's check...

(edit) no, It not the time Jo gave us, because that said 17:00 and the forum is set to 11:00... Gosh! We really need a system!
:-D

Eyalan, it's possible to change the time the forum shows to your own time. The link Jo gave shows the current time in Australia. well, the part where she (and I, for that matter) live.

I'll go and try poking the mods about a forum time thing...

Believe it or not, you already CAN set your time so it co-ordinates with your friends'.
There IS a GMT time option in your profiles. If you wanted to, just set it on to that. Then, when you post asking people to meet you at the chat, on MSN etc at a certain time, post the GMT/UT (Greenwich Mean time, Universal) time (it's the time by which the other times are set). You can always check it by slightly changing the addy Jo posted to this
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/current_time_in_UTC.aspx
even if you don't change your profile clock to it. *goes to change MY profile time to GMT/UT*
