I want to figure out how to colorize.. how do you find pictures that are slightly easy to start out with?

The easiest pictures to start out with would be head shots. Pictures that are pretty, but with not too much detail on the clothing. If you get a pic say with a with background you can use different textures and patterns even colors to make up something unique.

Take this picture here. It has beautiful colors, but it might be a little difficult for a first time.

Tips and Tricks

skin - when I color skin I usually just floodfill layers and create a nice skin color. Some people erase the outside, but I find it easier to just color over it.

Hair - hair tends to be kinda tough. When I color hair I use the hue and saturation and set it around a color I want. Then use color balance to make it more bold.

note: Don't be afraid to resize your image. If the picture is too big it can look weird.
Use your sharpen and blur tools.
