Ooh that's really really nice! Your drawing skills are unparalleled.
If I may, I will like to ask a question. You know how you draw, you can see the pencil strokes? Well, my question is how do you draw where you can't see them.

It's been a really long time. 2 years to be exact.
This is a piece that I started a year ago and it took me until now to finish it because I was lazy. Overall though, it took 15 hours.

Yes, you're back! I love looking at your drawings. You're very inspirational. And I'm incredibly jealous of your noses. Mine never seem to be quite right.

holy smokes! you have some ridiculous skills there! I'm still kind of reeling from looking at that. Such detail!! The eyebrows, the soft tufts of hair on the left. I bow to you!

Thank you guys! I was quite pleased with the outcome, though I think I slopped up the hair in the end, in the lower right hand corner.
To Caunion and bow_and_arrow:
I use a technique called blending to smooth the pencil strokes away. This can be done with a tool called a tortillon, which is a pointed cylinder of tightly rolled paper. Also, tissues, cotton swabs or even your finger can be used. I recommend not using your finger because when working with graphite on paper, it leaves oil residue that cannot be taken out.

Heey Twippo!
I've skipped through this entire thread and I must say that you are brilliant. Your drawings are fabulous! I really love your style and realism.
May I ask how you start drawing? Do you first make a soft sketch of the face with the eyes, noce and mouth already in place? Or do you have your own way of starting? The thing is, that I've got used to a bad habbit of starting with the left eye of my character and when that's done I go over to the nose, the right eye and the mouth.. Eventually I sometimes find that the face is kind of out of proportion.. But I've grown so used to starting my drawings in this way that I do not know how to change it.. any advice?
And if you're interested and willing.. than you could take a look at a few drawings I posted here a while back. I would love to hear some advice from you on how I should improve.

Keep up the good work!

Hello Will,
Thank you for taking the time to look through the thread, first of all! I took a look at your art thread and you have very nice pieces. There weren't any glaring proportional errors like I was expecting when you said that. But to make sure you have proportions down, I recommend gridding. As I've said before, using a grid is perfectly OK. It helped me become better at freehand too, just by practicing drawing so much. If you don't like gridding, do start out with a complete sketch, very lightly before you shade ANYTHING. Always always start with the eyes, then nose and mouth, frame the face, etc.
I also recommend blending your artwork, which can be done by methods I described above. And make sure not to let any lines show. There aren't any lines in real life, life is gradients and varying changing tones. Getting rid of the lines with give your art sophistication and make it not look like a cartoon.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions...

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't updated in almost a year. I'm at university now and I don't really have a lot of time to draw. Will slowly post all the stuff I've done in the past year though. Here's a sketch I did for my friend's birthday. Just mechanical pencil on sketch paper, 2 hours.

WOW! You amaze us with your presence and your drawing! Nice!! I once drew the Beatles. It was horrible and I think it should erased from existence.
I definitely understand not having time to draw. I'm stuck in university as well and I'm still working on a series I started in January.

Oh wow. I don't think I've ever commented here before. I've gone through every page in this thread and you amaze me.

Wow, I'm pretty sure I commented here a few years ago, and I think you're getting better! You're work is aweinspireing, that's for sure! I can understand the time it takes to do this.
