Post subject: Question: Starting to learn how to draw

If you wanted to start to learn how to draw.. do you all know of any sites that provides either tutorials or simple pictures to practice with?

(Both realistic and cartoon-y)

I... tend to dislike drawing tutorials because they don't provide personal style. It's like, "Here is how you can dry this exactly like this, so here this is."

My main source is http://www.deviantart.com/

If you search "drawing tutorials" you should come up with a variety.

The sole reason I was looking for drawing tutorials was so that I could try a variety of different styles and experiment.

Well, Drawspace is not too bad at tutorials.

Like Kit said, the best way to learn how to draw is look at other people's stuff.

I began to learn by simply picking up a picture and starting.

I'd recommend staying away from anime if you are serious about drawing, as many art schools are supposedly getting sick of it. If it's merely a hobby, give it a go.

But, as an art teacher of mine said, all art starts with observational drawing. So rather than picking up a tutorial first, find an item or person to draw, and go at it. That's how I started, and 200 pics/4 years later, it turned out not too bad in the end. Objects are good to start off with (still life and whatnot), though if you are up for a challenge, find a portrait of, well, anyone.

Do recommend tutorials for painting though. That's just... annoying. But I hate painting, so I'm biased ^^
