PHANTOM OF THE OPERA FAVS.

this is the thread of the graphic (not bloody) battle between SilverRose and Sunshine! we mutually agreed on 7 rounds based on 7 songs that we liked. the rounds will proceed as follows.

round 1: the music of the night
round 2: no one would listen
round 3: primadonna
round 4: masquerade (mask dance or final scene)
round 5: the point of no return (part 1 or 2)
round 6: down once more
round 7: learn to be lonely

So I figure we have to do at least 3 rounds of banners and 3 rounds of blends and the last one we can pick. does that sound good to you? anyway, you go ahead and start the first round SilverRose. :)

I'm so sorry I didn't reply sooner! I was away all day yesterday and I didn't have any access to a computer. :-( Well, here's my entry! I really enjoyed making it. :-D This scene is so beautiful and intimate...*sighs happily*

Ooooo! I love how glow-y and soft yours looks. :) How do you do that cool effect with the text? My next entry should be up later today or possibly tomorrow.

thanks. it took a lot of layers so if you really want to know I'll spell it out as best as I can remember.

1. place the text the way you want it on the graphic and convert it to a raster. (if you don't you'll do it in the next step anyway.)
2. duplicate the text layer and give it an inner bevel. (effects>3D effects>inner bevel.) pick a color cohesive with the rest of the graphic and copy the code. you'll need it later.
3. duplicate the duplicated layer of text and give it a Gaussian blur of about 5. (adjust>blur>Gaussian blur.)
4. go back to the original layer of text. drop the shadow. (effects>3D effects>drop shadow.) use the color that you used for the inner bevel. if you didn't copy it all is not lost. just open the inner bevel window again, copy the color, and click cancel. no harm done. so set the shadow at 0,0, 100% opacity, and 10 for the blur.
5. go back to the original text layer again, and drop the shadow again. drag this layer under the other shadow when you're done. this time set the blur to 7 and the color to white.
6. now that you have all your layers here's where you can get as creative as you want. here's something like what I did (to the best of my memory).

a) duplicated text blurred (saturation) 100%
b) duplicated text beveled (screen) 50%
c) text (luminance legacy) 100%
d) text dropped shadow 1 (hard light) 100%
e) text dropped shadow 2 (lighten) 100%

this may not be exactly what I did (in fact I'm sure it's not) but it's as close as I remember. so you might get different results than I did. and I'm using Corel PSP X so there might be that too. :duh:

Uhhh...wow...that's a lot of work! I used Photoshop Elements 5, so there might be a problem trying to figure it out. I'll try it out for round 3. :-D Thanks!

Here's my round 2! I'm not very happy with it, but I guess it is what it is. heehee

I tried it out, but I couldn't do some of the steps and it didn't work. :frust: Well, I guess this means that you alone can have that amazingly cool glowing text! heehee I love the tilted look yours has!

oh well, at least you tried! I got the idea from a tutorial on the AU website. maybe that would work better with your program. :) and thank you for the compliment. 8-)

Thanks, Nurr! This battle has been really fun so far. :-D I'm normally against pink, too....but I absolutely love your banner, Sunny! It's so..prima donna-ish. heehee I guess we're on to blends now, right? *goes off to make a blend*

*edit*

Ok, here it is! I had really wanted to make one of the Phantom's scene, but there weren't enough pics that fit well together. :(

Thanks! :-D Well, I just duplicated the layer and...I sorta forgot. lol I think I might have used diffuse glow and Gaussian blur. I remembering it being really easy!

I love how you've fitted the Phantom and Christine in the background of yours! *whips out Photoshop and gets to work*

*comes back*

This took an insanely long time to make, giving my lack of inspiration. :)
