Really nice, Twippo. I really think you should (if you haven't already) start going into professional art. You could really make it, I'm sure. I have a small question. Whenever I try to scan my drawings, they end up lighter than what's on the sketchbook. I'm not so sure if it's my drawings' problem or the scanner's problem. Could you help me out there. I just love how you do the hair with the contrast.

Hey Caunion!

The scanner always makes your drawings lighter than what they actually look like. To fix that, you either have to go into your scanner's settings and change the lightness or fix it in Photoshop. I choose to do the second one, and I try my best fixing the brightness and contrast to make it look as best as the original.

As for the hair, it just takes practice and a lot of exposure to other people's art and styles. Some artists are nice enough to post tutorials at other sites, and those helped me too. A kneaded eraser also comes in handy for bringing out contrast.

That is so amazing! Really, you should consider proffesional art... Have you ever tried doing a bunch of people side by side? In a group or something? Or do you prefer portraits?

A lot of times when im too lazy i grid. :P now there is this whole dispute where some people consider using a grid cheating. i don't really believe that though. if using guides is cheating, then would a "real" contractor build an entire house from the ground up without the aid of a tape measure? that's just absurd. gridding is simply a tool that guides us to get the correct proportions in a picture.

queenie: yeah i mostly like portraits. group portraits can be ruined easily if you screw up one person then the whole drawing gets messed up. i prefer working on one person as the focus of the drawing.

Thank you! Seriously though, anyone can draw. It just takes a degree of carefulness and a lot of determination, but you can do it for sure! I've seen people improve tremendously from drawing simple stick figures. You just need the motivation and you too can be Van Gogh. I am dead serious.

If you don't believe me, here is my first attempt at realism! Quite different, no?

Yeah.. I see. I have seen people improve much, also. One of my good friends is an artist. I personally believe that I am going to wait until I achieve actually determination. Right now, my determination is more on Photoshop. Although, that may change when school comes, and I am bored in class. :P

(I still like that though.)
