I made this banner today, and I thought it turned out so well that I'd put it up for suggestions and comments. I played around with effects and layers and stuff:

^ I duplicated the text and did a gaussian blur with the bottom text.

Neat Shieldmaiden!! I really like it! You did a great job with the different layers...I would have chosen a different font but that's just me...

I used the select tool and created the area I wanted to be lightended then I inverted the selection and used the lighten/darken tool on the section.
