I was just wondering how you make a graphic look like this:

or

(Examples by Enedlach and Riniel Anariel)

I was just wondering how you get it to have all white, and the colored pictures like that... if you know what I mean . I use GIMP though so I don't know if that will be a problem or not.

The colors are probably just textures, but I'm not sure about the white... they might have used a diffuse glow (I don't know if there's a GIMP equivalent of that or not), or lowered the saturation, or both.

Or you could ask them - they'd probably know :P

Try copy the layer you have and put it on top of the existing one (so it's duplicated), add a Guassian Blur effect (value 5.0) to the top layer and change the mode from 'Normal' to 'Screen'. That should somewhat create the effect on the first picture. For an even enhanced effect, you can then in turn copy the top layer (the one with the Guassian Blur/Screen effect) and put that 3rd layer on top, with the same Guassian Blur and Screen effect.

Thanks Eru! I did that but it just make the graphic a little brighter...how do I make it white, and have color on the darker spots?

A simple way to recreate the effects of the second picture is to first change the hue saturation and make the picture black and white.
Then you adjust the 'levels' or 'curves' to take out alot of the grey scale so you have a more contrasy Image.
Then on a layer above that you can put a coloured gradiet or just a straight colour. You change the layer blending options of the layer with the colour on it to 'Overlay' and that will make the black turn into the colour you have on the layer above it.

I'm not sure exactly where the options would be on gimp as I'm not familiar with it, but I'm positive that the program will have those functions

Both look like they've had textures used on them, and maybe they've done the glow effect you can find on this site in the effects tutorials section.
